We are near skiing and hiking making us a true 4 season destination. This little cabin was built as a storage shed back in the 70’s or somewhere there abouts. It was originally constructed partially over an old tobacco barn foundation. The original barn was built sometime in the 1940’s and was struck by lightning in the 70’s and burned to the ground. 85% of the materials used in the remodeling of what we now call Rustic Ridge was reclaimed materials. Most of the planks and finish lumber Which includes wormy chestnut, ash and cherry wood was salvaged from an old farmhouse that was dismantled on our nearby property. With all new plumbing and electrical you get all the safety and comfort of your own home. The house does not have AC and it is hardly ever needed. Even in the heat of summer the house stays cool being located under a canopy of tall birch, poplar and cherry trees. Heat is provided by electric baseboard and wall heat as well as an electric fireplace. The inside of cabin is built with refurbished wood and countertop. The bed was a little uncomfortable but, my husband and I both have back issues. We loved the outside lighting all around the cabin. The only thing we both didn't like was no door on the bathroom. This rustic cottage has a wonderful reclaimed-wood interior and nice designer touches. It’s pretty and very clean. Though the road leading up to it runs past a saw mill and a blighted property, the cottage itself is nicely situated on a remote property further up. There’s no stove, but the grill and microwave were all we needed. We really enjoyed the fire pit. If you want a nice, quiet place to stay. This is it. The only sound you hear the whole stay. Is the water running of the creek that runs right next to the property in the back yard and the occasional coming and going of the gentleman who lives right next door.
