Best Time to Visit Seoul

Choosing the right time to go to Seoul really shapes your experience. Spring blossoms and crisp autumn air make palace walks and neighborhood strolls feel effortless, while winter brings a calmer, more local rhythm to museums and markets.

Using Expedia Group booking data from 2025, here is how demand, pricing, and travel patterns shift throughout the year in Seoul, and how to decide the best time to visit Seoul for your trip.

When to Visit Seoul at a Glance

  • Best weather: April to May and September to October
  • Most crowded: August (about 1.4x busier than the calmest months)
  • Cheapest months: February, January, and March (about 33% lower than peak)
  • Fewest crowds: February, January, and December
  • Major travel spikes: April, May, September, October, and November, with October the peak
  • Best value balance: February, March, and January (about 26% below peak pricing)

When Is the Best Weather in Seoul?

If you want comfortable days for city walks and light hikes, April and May in spring and September into October in fall are the sweet spots. Without the summer heat, it is a lovely time for exploring Gyeongbokgung Palace, wandering Bukchon Hanok Village, or taking a clear-view climb on Bukhansan's trails. If you are comparing Seoul weather by month, spring and autumn are typically the most inviting for full days outside.

For mostly indoor plans, the wet, sticky heat of July and August, when the monsoon rains peak, is a good time to head inside, and so are the frigid weeks of December through February. Museums, galleries, and market-hopping pair nicely with the calmer pace, and you can warm up along Cheonggyecheon after a morning at the National Museum.

When Is the Cheapest Time to Visit Seoul?

The cheapest time to visit Seoul is usually February, January, and March, when hotel prices run about 33% lower than the most expensive months. If you’re looking for value without compromising your experience, February, March, and January deliver some of the best overall balance at about 26% below peak.

To trim costs further, plan your stay so you arrive on Tuesday when rates are typically lowest; Saturday is usually the priciest night. Weekend stays tend to be about 6% higher than weekdays, a useful insight if you’re watching Seoul hotel prices closely.

When Is Seoul Most Crowded?

Seoul’s busiest month is August, when visitor volumes are about 1.4 times higher than in the calmest period of January and February. If you’d rather enjoy spots like N Seoul Tower or the palace grounds with a bit more breathing room, February, January, and December are usually the least crowded time to visit Seoul.

Note that top-rated properties fill up quickly in October, April, and November. Those months are popular for city breaks and seeing the fall foliage, so the best locations can get booked early.

How Far in Advance Should You Book Seoul Hotels?

Booking lead times stretch with demand. October stays are typically reserved about 42 days in advance, compared with around 24 days for February trips, with an overall average of about 33 days. That means spring and autumn stays reward earlier planning, while late winter offers more room to be spontaneous.

Because sought-after hotels sell out fastest in October, April, and November, start looking early if your dates fall into these months. Flexible rates are popular throughout the year (around 72% of bookings), climbing to roughly 75% in October and dropping slightly to about 68% in January—helpful if you want to hold a flexible booking while you fine-tune plans. Typical stays last about 2.8 nights in April and around 2.2 nights in January, so shorter winter trips can open up last-minute options during the quieter Seoul travel seasons.

Insights based on bookings through Expedia Group between January 1–December 31, 2025. [Last updated: July 14, 2026]
