![Nevis is the quintessential volcanic island paradise with its conical shaped peak that is normally obscured by cloud cover.

This was actually the view from our room and we had a rare clear day and the top was visible for a few hours.

The volcano was actually named by Christopher Columbus when he discovered the island in 1493. Thinking the white stuff on top of the volcano was snow he called it Nuestra Señora de Nieves. Nieve means snow in Spanish... it later morphed from Nieves to Nevis.

While the location is a bit distant from the city center, it's highly recommended for those who enjoy tranquility. “Visited for the sugar mad carnival season. Location was walking distance to the downtown area where most of the festivities happened. Room was nice and cozy had microwave and fridge and the property had a communal kitchen. “The owners and staff were awesome. They took time to get to know us and were so welcoming and helpful with anything we needed. They gave us info about how to get around and offered to organize things for us. The property was unique and the individual cottages were amazing. Be aware though, there’s no AC. It didn’t bother us but might be a deal breaker for some. We will absolutely be back! ”

![Nevis is the quintessential volcanic island paradise with its conical shaped peak that is normally obscured by cloud cover.

This was actually the view from our room and we had a rare clear day and the top was visible for a few hours.

The volcano was actually named by Christopher Columbus when he discovered the island in 1493. Thinking the white stuff on top of the volcano was snow he called it Nuestra Señora de Nieves. Nieve means snow in Spanish... it later morphed from Nieves to Nevis.
