Overall, I had a great stay at The Residence Mauritius and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The rooms were comfortable and well maintained, the service was warm, and the beach is simply spectacular—without doubt one of the hotel's greatest assets. That said, there are areas where I believe the hotel could improve. The biggest disappointment was the food at the main buffet. The quality was average, and on some occasions even below average. For a five-star resort in Mauritius, this was surprising, especially considering that many other luxury hotels on the island offer exceptional dining experiences. Coming from the hospitality industry myself, I genuinely believe this property has enormous potential. The foundations are already there: a beautiful location, excellent beach, charming atmosphere, and a strong team. With greater focus on the food and beverage offering and continued attention to detail, I have no doubt it could become one of the standout luxury resorts in Mauritius. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay and would happily return. At this stage, however, I would personally rate the hotel between **4 and 4.5 stars**, rather than a full five stars.

I loved how eco conscious the property was, refillable toiletries, water stations and paper straws only! The beach was lovely, staff at boat house really helpful. The food was al a carte and lots of vegetarian and fish options which we liked. The drinks are on the expensive side but I think they good value for quality food makes up for this. We did full board and I would reccomend it. You can see there are some minor things to iron out like I didn’t like trying to be sold on booking dinner at the chefs table restaurant all the time. We used the spa on the last day even with discount this is pricey but the full body massage was amazing!

We had mixed experiences during our stay at SO Sofitel Mauritius. After a long flight, arriving at 8pm, we were left sitting in the dark with a welcome drink for around 10 minutes before being taken to reception. Check-in was efficient but lacked warmth. Our room was uniquely designed and would have been impressive in its day, but it is now tired and poorly maintained. Floors, benchtops and bathroom surfaces were stained, cracked and worn, the outdoor shower door was covered in paint splatters, and the outdoor bath was unusable due to a very slow water supply and leaking plug. For a resort charging premium prices, the condition of the facilities was disappointing. The pool had cracked tiles and leaks, housekeeping once failed to replace our towels, and coffee pods were chargeable after the first two. Reception staff further disappointed us when a simple request for a breakfast box before an early tour was repeatedly ignored. In contrast, the food and beverage team were exceptional—warm, welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The gardens were beautifully maintained, the beachfront setting is stunning, and concierge Raj sincerely listened to our concerns, apologised and assured us they would be raised with management. The kitchen staff also made our anniversary special with a thoughtful cake. Overall, while the location and hospitality from the food and beverage team were excellent, the resort's condition and reception service did not justify the premium price.

Highly recommend staying here. The hotel has an awesome tropical vibe to it and the views of the sea from the rooms is amazing. The food and service is fantastic. The staff are all so happy to help and ensure your stay is extra special.
