About an hour train ride from Edinburgh; maybe 30 mins drive from Glasgow. Quiet, quaint Dunblane.

I haven't stayed at a Hotel Du Vin for sometime and in the time I've been away it's become a shadow of it's former self as a brand. Overall it felt tired and the cutting edge that it used to have with its wines no longer exists. Our room was expensive and we were given a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park. Breakfast was extremely disappointing, the emphasis clearly being on cost-cutting. Fresh fruit was a bowl of apples and some very small pre-served plastic cups with a little bits of fruit. The eggs tasted suspiciously like they were from egg powder rather than real fresh eggs. They were tasteless and watery. We cancelled breakfast for the second day and went out for an excellent breakfast, but we had to spot that we had been still being charged on our bill for breakfast for the second day. The Reception staff were very accommodating with our request for taxis, additional coffee capsules etc but overall this is a hotel brand that has lost its mojo.

Overall a good 2 night break away. Leisure facilities excellent. Good food. Room (2nd floor) was in need of refurbishment,

Beautiful gardens, the room was not in the big historic home but an added on building to the side. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious in the restaurant. The only problem was the room was very hot and it made sleep difficult. This was with a fan on and the window open as far as it could be opened. I would return but only in cold months
