This was my fourth stay at different Riu's, and frankly this was the least favorite of the four. I had two rooms, 1 for me and my wife, and the other room for my 2 adult sons. Another couple joined us and had their own room. Bottomline all three rooms were unclean and very outdated. My room required recleaning and a change of sheets since they were dirty.
The lack of care in the rooms shows and there are simple fixes the hotel could do if they cared to.
Like the other Riu's I stayed at they have an onsite photography. At this location during our family photos on the beach our session was interpreted by a group of local men. Anyways, since the hotel lacks security on the open beach and basically allows anyone on the property my paid photo session was ruined. The lady taken our photos did not know how to handle this disruption and again there is no security, so I had to intervene.
The country is beautiful and amazing, but this Riu location is not recommended.

Unique “treehouse” experience. Amazing forest/mountains view. It was quite of a delight to stay in such of eco-friendly environment. Great food at the Hotel Taru restaurant. Excellent customer service. Kudos to the entire staff but specially to Carlos Guzman for going above and beyond. Thank you. Pura Vida!

Fernanda and Andy and Gravier the front office /lobby attendants and Glen and Milton were amazing! at the Sentido Norte reastaturan the waiters Omer, Andres, Christian, Ana Isabel, bartenders, etc teh chefs etc were truly exceptional, from the room cleaning staff to the highest positions were all very humble and professional. The owners of this resort are extremely lucky to have these staff are an amazing asset to the resort.

I loved this property and would definitely stay again if I visit this part of Costa Rica. The buffet menu changed every day so you could try different dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner. The restaurant had a set menu but the options were delicious. The staff were friendly, the facilities were clean, there’s A LOT of wildlife. In terms of entertainment on property (I stayed during the off season) there’s two pools that play music, a gym, a game room/volleyball net, and a pool table in the lobby. I would recommend booking an excursion for at least one of the days you’re there which can be done by AMSTAR who’s on the property or on the beach with another company.
