West End Ski Vacations

We booked a room with 2 double beds, when we got to our room, there was one double bed and one twin. When I called the front desk to let them know of the error, the agent asked me "how do you know it's a twin bed?" instead of either taking my word for it or looking at their own system to confirm that the room we were assigned was in fact a room with a twin bed. Once I told them that I can see the bed is physically smaller than the one next to it, plus it only has one pillow, the agent told me in a frustrated tone that if I went back downstairs, she would see if there was anything else available. Luckily by the time I got downstairs I was able to talk to a much more pleasant front desk agent. Our room ended up being just okay, we've stayed in worse, but it wasn't worth the money. The breakfast is also advertised as having a buffet option, but we arrived to discover that they had taken that away months ago, but hadn't updated their website. The breakfast was a bunch of frozen food we could've purchased at a grocery store. At lease the waitstaff was nice!

My overall stay was fine, my room was okay. The AC intake needed a good vacuuming and the sink drain was slow to drain in room 1012. The staff was first rate. I did have trouble leaving the underground parking. My room key worked to open the gate, only to have the gate immediately close. I had to go back to the office, explain my issue and was given another key. Same result. I did find another guest key in the Dropbox and it worked. Go figure.

I was surprised to learn during our stay that this hotel was THE place to stay in back when traveling by train was the norm, with it sitting right next to Ottawa's main railway station. The informative signs detailing the many famous figures and dignitaries that have visited the chateau over the years was very intriguing to me. I could certainly see why it has earned such a reputation as the room itself was spacious, well-decorated, and comfortable. Furthermore, the money spent on having a view over Parliament Hill was well worth it, as it made for excellent sights both day and night when we were relaxing there. Although we lamented the lack of a microwave it was hard to find fault with the grandeur of the room itself. I would say that the main things that offset our wonder during this stay were the lack of on-site parking (I don't like trusting my vehicle to a valet, but that's just me), the hecticness of traffic in the surrounding area (which is admittedly a given in a capital city), and the lack of adequate staff members in some areas of the hotel. The latter was mainly seen by us during breakfast, where there were too few people available to serve the sheer volume of guests, some of whom were rather demanding as a result. My wife and I felt rather sorry for the staff who were clearly trying their best, so my hope is that others have brought this up and that it will eventually be addressed.

We loved being a gold star member as the lounge amenity was great, except it was too cold, and the ability to check in and out quickly, except no one told us about that and had to wait in the line at the main Cecil in for quite some time.

Travelled with our dog, so very good of the property to allow pets! Unfortunately, our room was not ready at check-in time so they moved us to another room which was much smaller than what we had been expecting based on our last stay. Good of them to let us check in, but as a result we may not have been reassigned the correct room. In the end all was good - as I say, very good to have a reliable hotel downtown that allows pets! :)

Nice modern apartment building rather than boutique hotel. Name is misleading.
