The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is dotted with one stunning vista after the next, as well as countless outdoor activities for all interests and ability levels. From hiking and biking to wine tasting and farm-to-table dining, this southern British Columbia region attracts those seeking a peaceful destination with plenty to do.

Dubbed the “Wine Capital of Canada,” the town of Oliver boasts hot, sunny summer days and some of Canada’s finest wines. Take a tour of area wineries, including the popular Burrowing Owl Estate Winery. Hike McIntyre Bluff, go fishing on Tuc-El-Nuit Lake and learn about the living culture of the Okanagan People at the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre.

Don’t miss Okanagan Falls at the south tip of Skaha Lake, one of the warmest lakes in Canada. Spend an afternoon on one of its sandy beaches. Go cycling on the Kettle Valley Railroad trail. Go rock climbing at the Skaha Bluffs. Like other area towns, Okanagan Falls is adventure-oriented, with a friendly and welcoming ambiance.

In Penticton, one of just two cities in the world set between two lakes, you can swim at both the Okanagan and Skaha beaches, visit more than 80 wineries, go walking or biking, and savor locavore cuisine. Cycle through vineyards, go kayaking, taste craft beers, and shop at the Main Street farmers’ market every Saturday throughout the spring, summer and fall.

Venture into Cathedral Provincial Park, between the dense, wet Cascade Mountains and the desert-like Okanagan Valley. Go hiking through fascinating rock formations and wind-eroded quartz monzonite towers. Fish and camp at tranquil Haystack Lakes, watching for the rich variety of flora and fauna.
