Lovely stay, friendly and helpful staff.

We were greeted with a handshake which is always a good start. Our hosts, Neil and Rosemarie were welcoming and eager to make sure our stay was a good one. Our room was spacious as was the bathroom and shower. We were pleased with the coffee machine and the fridge on the landing for the cold milk. The small touches are what makes this hotel a special one. The bar downstairs proved popular to watch the world cup and we appreciated the hospitality during the evening. Breakfast was cooked to order and taken on the deck. The swimming pool was excellent. Car parking is easy and plentiful. One small point is that we would have appreciated a fan in our room which was very hot. Given the extremely high temperatures we are all experiencing it might be something to consider for the future. Otherwise everything was absolutely fine and of a very high standard.

This was our second stay at Fowlescombe Farm and it only reinforced our view that it is one of the most special places to stay in the UK. This time we stayed in the Pond Suite, which was every bit as beautifully designed and comfortable as our previous accommodation, with lovely views across the surrounding countryside. Being one of just three rooms within the Farmhouse, we particularly enjoyed having direct access to the spacious, well-equipped kitchen and the cosy lounge areas downstairs. Having visited previously in October, it was wonderful to experience the property in a completely different season. The landscape had transformed and the grounds looked stunning. The new pond area is particularly impressive and, once open, will add natural swimming and sauna facilities that look set to be another fantastic addition. Most of all, I echo everything from my previous review. The highest compliment I can pay Fowlescombe Farm is that staying there feels less like being in a hotel and more like staying with relatives - exceptionally stylish relatives, with impeccable taste, beautiful surroundings and outstanding food. It remains a rare place that combines genuine warmth with luxury, and we are already looking forward to returning again.

The entrance hall looked promising. However, the Receptionist was curt, unfriendly and really shouldn't be doing that job! The hotel was tired and needed updating. The bed was very uncomfortable. Breakfast was supposed to be at 6.30am which was essential when leaving for a graduation ceremony and needing to be at the University by 8. At 7 - the single person running around the restaurant had still not served breakfast. When it came it was plonked on a plate (poached egg) with no explanation of having to make your own toast, tea etc... Had that been explained we would have done that first. Overall, a very imposing grand building but the service and facilities inside didn't do it justice.
