Visit one of Qatar’s few large green spaces, Doha Golf Club, a great place to enjoy a golfing lifestyle. Rent clubs and play a round or have food and drinks at the facility’s large restaurant.
Designed by Peter Harradine, one of the greats of golf course creation in Europe and the Middle East, the site’s two courses have lush green grass. This is not an easy feat for a course located in northern Doha’s natural desert.
Play the 7,131-yard championship course, which regularly hosts the European PGA Tour Qatar Masters. Alternatively, enjoy a less challenging round at the 9-hole course, where lighting allows play into the evening.
Doha Golf Club is truly an oasis. Lush fairways and greens are separated by out-of-bounds areas of arid desert land. Thousands of shrubs and trees, including Arizona cactus plants, have been placed here to enhance the golf experience. Traps hold the area’s natural sand, while eight man-made lakes add beauty and water hazards to the grounds.
Rent clubs and shoes as needed. Championship green fees include range balls. Use the rental carts’ digital capability to know exact yardages from greens for optimum club selection.
After playing golf, head to the clubhouse for food and drinks. The building’s Arabian-style architecture features white columns, arches and domes. Unlike in many other parts of Doha, alcohol is served here, although the teas and mocktails are also quite enticing.
Enjoy varied cuisine including Indian, Far Eastern, Italian and American food. The restaurant is popular among non-golfers as well. Come for breakfast, lunch, daily happy hours or Saturday family brunch. Dine or drink on the terrace for views of the course and surroundings.
Travel by car or take a taxi to the Doha Golf Course north of Downtown Doha. The ride will take about 25 minutes. The courses are open from early morning seven days a week, with reduced championship rates in the afternoon. Evening golf is available on the academy course. Book tee times on the course website.
