About this property
Old Homosassa Canal Cottage: Dock, Kayaks & Bikes
Welcome to our family’s waterfront retreat in Old Homosassa! Our cozy canal-front cottage offers a relaxing getaway for up to six guests, in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of local restaurants and waterfront favorites.
COMFORTS OF HOME
The cottage features three bedrooms, each with a queen bed, and two bathrooms, including a renovated main bathroom. Enjoy a kitchen for preparing meals at home, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a washer and dryer.
Both bathrooms are accessed through bedrooms; there is no separate hallway bathroom.
A pullout bed in the main bedroom is available at no additional charge. If you’ll need it, please include that in your booking message so we can prepare the bed and provide linens. Using the pullout does not increase the six-guest maximum. Living room sofas are for lounging only and are not designated sleeping spaces.
EXPLORE AND UNWIND
Five kayaks and two bicycles are included for your stay. Paddle along the canal, explore the neighborhood by bike, or relax on the screened porch or beside the water. Life jackets are provided and must be worn when using the kayaks. You’re welcome to bring your own. No motorized watercraft is provided.
Walk to local favorites like The Freezer and The Shed at MacRae’s, or bring your golf cart to enjoy the area. Whether you’re visiting for fishing, kayaking, seasonal scalloping, or a quiet getaway, our cottage offers a comfortable place to return to at the end of the day.
BRINGING A BOAT?
Our dock accommodates one vessel up to 18 feet long and is best suited to a small fishing skiff.
Access to the Homosassa River requires passing through a narrow, height-restricted culvert. Boats with fixed towers, canopies, or deep hulls cannot be accommodated through the culvert. Clearance also depends on the tides, so boat length alone does not guarantee access.
Please do not assume a pontoon or center-console boat will fit. For questions about vessel suitability, use Vrbo’s “Contact host” feature and include your boat’s length, width, draft, and height above the water.
A nearby public boat ramp offers an alternative for launching if your vessel cannot access our dock.
PARKING
All vehicles and trailers must fit entirely within our driveway. Parking on the lawn or street is not permitted. Please review the driveway photos when planning parking for your group.
GUEST ACCESS AND CHECK-IN
Guests have access to the entire cottage, outdoor areas, and private dock, along with the kayaks and bicycles. The locked owner’s closet is not available to guests.
Enjoy convenient self check-in using the access code provided in your check-in message.
Check-in: 3:00 PM Check-out: 10:00 AM
Early check-in ($25) and late checkout may be available with advance approval, depending on our cleaning schedule. Neither is guaranteed, especially during busy scallop-season turnovers.
IMPORTANT DETAILS
The primary renter must be at least 25 years old. Maximum occupancy is six guests, and the property is for registered guests only. Parties, events, and visits from unregistered guests are not permitted.
This is a non-smoking, pet-free home. Smoking inside the home or bringing pets results in an additional $250 cleaning fee.
Please do not rearrange furniture or décor, and respect our quiet neighborhood.
Guests must agree to the water-activity waiver upon booking for use of the dock, kayaks, and canal, as required by our homeowner’s insurance. The waiver is included in this listing’s rental agreement for review before booking.

The house was very clean and comfy had all the necessities we needed lovely outdoor area to sit and look at the water close to The manatee dive and tour. Beds were super comfy great stay will definitely come back again
We loved our stay at this home. It was very clean, accurately described in the listing and exceeded our expectations. It has everything you need, all you have to do is bring your clothes and stop at a grocery store (there are 3 within a short drive). If you don't want to cook there are several restaurants that serve some delicious food. The canal the unit is located on is perfect for kayaking and also just a short paddle to the river. It is conveniently located for dining, boating, kayaking or just taking it easy and enjoy area.
Highly recommend if you looking to take a trip to Homosassa. We will definitely stay there in the future.
This home was an absolute gem! It was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The back porch was so peaceful—our favorite spot to sit and unwind. The location couldn’t have been better, just a quick 3-minute golf cart ride to the local bars and restaurants. Shannon was an amazing host with excellent communication, and check-in was seamless from start to finish. We will definitely be back! Take my word for it—book this place. You won’t be disappointed!
This property was absolutely amazing, and our host was fantastic from start to finish! The home was so incredibly well-stocked with everything we could possibly need that we didn't even have to leave the property during our stay. The decor was a full Easter/spring theme, which was just delightful and added such a cheerful, welcoming touch to the atmosphere. On top of that, there were even fun things to find hidden around the property, making it feel like a little scavenger hunt. We had a wonderful time and can't recommend this place enough!
House was in a very set back community that was nice and quite. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and lots of spices for just about anything you would like to cook. I have never stayed in such a comfortable home, most are very bare and stark. The kayaks were a great way to explore the canals and surrounding areas. Very close to many attractions and things to do. Will definitely be back!
We loved staying here. It was just the place to relax and recharge while exploring the area. The house was thoughtfully appointed and decorated. We had everything we needed. The host was very communicative and got back to us quickly with any questions we had. The spot on the canal is so pretty. We live in the Midwest and it was so nice coming here and getting some sunshine and all the lush shades of green all around. We have been to Florida many times but never to this area. It’s gorgeous! We spent time at the house cooking out, playing board games, and paddling the kayaks around the canal. Loved the screen porch and outdoor seating areas. We enjoyed eating seafood at The Shed, which is delicious and right on the water. We drove there but it’s close enough to walk or ride bikes. The Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park is very close and a must see, both to see the springs and local Florida Wildlife, including a manatee program where they teach you about the manatees under their care and you can watch them eat. About 16-20 minutes away is Crystal River, home of the beautiful Three Sisters Springs and Kings Bay. We did a manatee snorkel tour through River Ventures and saw several, and then saw more walking the boardwalk on the Three Sisters Springs Trail. Our favorite restaurant in Crystal River was Cajun Jimmy’s, which has authentic Cajun food including boiled crawfish (seasonal). Overall we had great weather throughout our visit, which was the last week of March.
I cannot say enough good things about this little slice of peaceful heaven!!! The neighborhood is quaint, quiet, and so beautiful. Shannon is the most welcoming and responsive host, and the cottage is stunning. Just when you think it couldn’t get more magical, the place lights up at night into a peaceful evening wonderland. I had the best night sleep there I’ve had in decades. The use of the kayaks and the waterfront access was so special for my niece and I to enjoy the water and nature that surrounds us. You can easily walk bike or boat to many places. I cannot wait to return!
Perfect getaway! We had everything we needed to cook and sleep like angels. We enjoyed the quaint art and antique shops of Homosassa. We kayaked a few times and enjoyed an amazing swim with manatees in Homosassa Springs with Blue Heaven Tours. It was a peaceful placeTo gather family and regenerate. Thank you for sharing this piece of paradise!
We absolutely loved staying here. Lovely cottage. Very clean and organized with everything you could need. It is very close proximity to local restaurants and the river/ marina. We enjoyed having the bicycles and kayaks available to use.We felt completely at home. Shannon was an awesome host and very easy and pleasant to communicate with.I would definitely recommend this place and would come back again next time we visit Homosassa.
Our family loved our stay at your this home. WOW! Someone put lots of forethought supplying so many things for the staying travelers! We never wanted for anything here with EXTRA supplies and the house was so clean...beds soooo comfortable. We bood a fishing charter with Captain Duane Tibbets in Homassa Springs and caught great fish that he fileted for us to cook and he was an excellent boat captain. The small canal in the backyard was so enjoyabled to look at on the porch or from inside dining room. The host was amazing and so friendly! Centrally located home to many fun places to go and so close to the marina! We would definitely LOVE to come back again!!!!
