Browse the original works of art on display by Medellin’s legendary artists Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez in the oldest museum in the state.

The Museo de Antioquia acts as a tribute to the works of Medellin artists Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel GĂłmez. The museum contains many permanent and temporary exhibitions packed with reputable works of art as well as educational facilities to learn about the two famous local legends. There are workshops and a gift store on-site.

Learn about the life of Fernando Botero as you peruse his works of art. Many of his comical, obese sculptures are scattered around the Botero Plaza outside the museum. The artist portrays a bizarre perception of humans and animals with altered dimensions. Inside the museum, there are more sculptures from his collection as well as paintings. Browse the 12 rooms containing more than 100 pieces of art from Botero’s personal collection. Discover the Pedro Nel Gómez room to educate yourself about his life and his creations. He is known for his giant murals.

Take a look at the alternative collection of about 500 works of cultural significance in Colombia over the last couple of centuries. It ranges from photography and sculptures, to paintings and cartoons. Explore temporary exhibitions with works of national and international importance.

Take a guided tour of the museum in English. You may have to make a reservation by telephone. Visit the gift store on the first floor to purchase art supplies and replicas of the artists’ works. Dine at the adjoining restaurant to take a break from the art.

The building was once the home of the Palacio Municipal (City Hall). There is a small entrance fee. The museum is open from morning until late afternoon, year-round.

The Museo de Antioquia is part of the Botero Sculpture Park in the Old Quarter of Medellin. It is two blocks north of the Berrío Park subway station. There are plenty of cabs available in the city. You will find many restaurants, cafés, hotels and a university in the area. A few blocks to the east, you can find Parque Bolívar, which contains an extravagant fountain and the Catedral Metropolitana.
