The bedroom had very comfortable bed with fluffy pillows. The bathroom was a bit cramped and had a very noisy extractor fan. There was no provision to dry towels as radiator was off, I guess during summer months and a lamp was not working over the shower. We stayed two nights and enjoyed both evening meals which were very good. The team here were so welcoming and went above and beyond to assist us. The facilities were great and breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately the bathroom was tiny with the toilet rammed between a radiator and the shower cubical. As I was only staying for one night, the cramped conditions didn't have any negative bearing on my stay. When I walked into the restaurant, I was encouraged by the atmosphere and decor. Regrettably, my positive impression was met by a reality that was less agreeable: the surly barman needed a course in customer service and the food was disappointing. Corn chips from a packed, puff pastry lid to the steak and ale pie that was tasteless and obviously came from someone like Brake Bros. Overcooked soggy vegetables. Nobody checked on my meal and I returned to my room with no contact from the staff. In fairness, breakfast was a different matter.
