We are a group of 59-78 yr olds that enjoy biking and this place was perfect for us to stay at and bike the High Trestle Trail and the Racoon River Trail.
This is a spacious and beautiful home that is also warm and inviting. All six bedrooms are large and homey with bedding and blankets perfect for any weather. Mindy has thought of everything a guest might need. It was very clean and the bathrooms had plenty of towels and items needed to bathe plus handy extras! The kitchen was gorgeous! They don't build houses like this anymore. Thanks for letting us enjoy your amazing home!
We love staying at Helen's House - this is our 2nd time staying and I'm sure we will stay again. It has everything you would want. Great location, beautiful home, and spacious rooms. Perfect for our family.
My cousins and I had a family reunion here and had a lovely time. There was enough space for everyone to sleep comfortably and the house is a work of art. The little touches and family history make this place memorable and personable. And it's close to downtown if you want to go for a walk and explore. Book this place and you won't regret it.
We have stayed at Grandma Helen’s for three years the night before running Iowa Market to Market and we love it! We look forward to our stay at the historic house as much as the race
This is a beautiful, large, comfortable and very clean property - a house that has obviously been loved by prior and current generations. Especially fun were the momentos of family history sprinkled throughout the house. The kitchen is well equipped, and bathrooms have plenty of towels and supplies - very helpful when you have a large group. The hosts were very responsive and helpful throughout our stay.
Perfect historic house for family/friends get-togethers
This property has everything you can imagine(except a swimming pool). But no matter, lots of space for large groups to share thoughts and meals. Private spaces for personal conversations or just to think alone. The huge kitchen allows your group to help with meals easily. Close to downtown and groceries. Couldn’t have wished for a better place for our family to get together without a worry or a care.Grateful!
Such an enjoyable stay. We brought our grandkids (age 3 and 1), our daughter and her husband. It was very spacious for all with everything we needed for the kids. Love the location. Close to downtown, cute shops and restaurants. Very clean, excellent communication throughout our stay. I would highly recommend Helen's House. So cozy and comfortable.
What an amazing home! It was cozy and had such a calm feel. Everything was crisp and clean; the beds were so comfortable and we slept so great! The owners thought of everything we would need and were easy to communicate with when we had a question. You can tell family was a priority for Grandma Helen and we are so grateful to have had the chance to stay in her home. Thank you!

Key's to the house.
The house was very clean and inviting. We had a little communication issue about where the keys were supposed to be, so finding the keys to get in was a little tricky at -3 degree temperatures. Other than that, everything was very good and the host was very hospitable.
This lovely, historic home is well-maintained and situated in a pleasant neighborhood. Within walking distance is Perry's downtown--well above average as far as small towns go. Besides its historic structure and the furnishings and decorations that add to its charm, the house has all the necessities to make it comfortable (we have a large family and always do a lot of cooking when we stay in a rental and the kitchen in this house was the best equipped of any we've ever stayed in). Finally, the manager was perfectly communicative and responsive.
Our group of 6 women stayed at Grandma Helen's House while biking in Dallas County IA. We felt so fortunate to have found this wonderful VRBO. The home is beautiful with so many special touches!!! We loved the beautiful wood work in an and built in areas. Spacious with 6 bedrooms, newly remodeled kitchen. Very roomy living areas. Super clean. Beds were super comfortable. The owners were super good to work with. Kept in touch with us. Alerted us about a tornado watch and told us how to get to the basement if we needed to. They left a bouquet of lovely lilacs at our door. I would highly recommend this property. You won't be disappointed!
Grandma Helen's house is a house with plenty of character, as well as being quite suitable for larger groups. We booked the house as our son was getting married in nearby Madrid and we wanted a place for the groom's men to be able to stay the night before the wedding. For this it worked perfectly. Then, when the wedding was over, and the grooms-men had gone, it was great to have a place for our family to unwind for a couple of days.
The kitchen is well suited for cooking. We did a pancake breakfast the day of the wedding, and fetuccini for a late meal after. There were plenty of dishes, pans, etc. and we were able to cook almost as if at home.
The two dining tables are great for games. Also, we had two small children (ages 5 and 8) with us, and the kids bunk-bed room was perfect for them and the 5 year old loved the toys.
I don't know if we will ever be in Perry again, but if we are, we would be delighted to stay in Grandma Helen's house again.
This beautifully constructed and maintained house provided comfortable accommodation for my family - inside and outside! The kitchen was big and really well equipped; lots of seating in multiple rooms (opportunities for smaller groups to chat in addition to the full group eating together), the outdoor deck and yard were perfect for enjoying the weather and playing yard games; the downtown is walkable from the house and very cute; the host was available for questions and very gracious. We would definitely recommend this house!
This was our second year here and it such a welcoming home and Mindy is so great to work with😊 I would recommend this house to anyone who needs a lot of space!
Grandma Helen’s house was perfect. It was so beautifully decorated for Christmas, which made our family Christmas gathering so much more special. The house is very spacious and was perfect for 13 guests ages 7 and up. We would love to come back again!!
Grandma Helen's House was the PERFECT property for our group of Iowa Watercolor Society (IWS) member artists in town to attend the spring workshop at La Poste. The home has so much character and warmth. The host's attention to detail is obvious and made us all feel so welcome. We will look to reserve this property again for future IWS workshops!
I cannot give enough positive adjectives regarding this property and the owner. The owner is a very accommodating individual, and the home is just beautiful. Would recommend it to anyone. My only problem is that I cannot currently come up with a reason to book again soon. My guests were also delighted with it. Thank you so much for allowing us to experience it.
The pictures don't do justice to this stunning, comfortable, and roomy home. We are a group of 8 women who came to Perry to bike the nearby trails. The home was beautiful. From the well planned kitchen, the back deck with with gorgeous flowers where we enjoyed cocktails, to the spacious bedrooms with great mattresses and good nightssleeping everything was wonderful. Lots of parking. Mindi was super responsive to questions and gave great reccommdations . Close to bike trails, cute shops and good restaurants in Perry made for a fantastic adventure weekend.
