When you've checked out all of the well-known attractions in The Beaches, there's heaps more to see in the surrounding area. Pick up the keys to a rental car, toss your bags in the trunk and get on the road. We've come up with some drives you're sure to enjoy:

• Head off to Niagara Falls for a fantastic sightseeing adventure. Approximately 40 miles from The Beaches, it's home to loads of cool sights, including Horseshoe Falls.
• Next stop? It has to be Hamilton, which is around 40 miles away. African Lion Safari is one local hot spot you really shouldn't miss.
• Head to Algonquin Provincial Park to rediscover nature. Pack a picnic to enjoy or just sit and unwind. From The Beaches, it's 150 miles away.

If you don't have a driver's license issued in Canada, then you may need to acquire an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your place of residence in order to rent a car. It's also important to note that if you do need an IDP, it has no validity on its own. You'll be asked to show your current driver's license your passport and other forms of identification as well. Lastly, make sure the credit card used to book the rental vehicle matches the name on your license and passport. Some other requirements for international car rentals are:

• Age restrictions: You must be at least 25 in most countries to rent a car. If you're younger than that, it might still be possible to rent a car but you'll have to pay a Young Driver's Surcharge. Additional restrictions may also apply to the types of cars you can rent.
• Driving limitations: Be sure to read the fine print before you drive away. With rental cars, you usually can't cross country borders, drive on ferries or on certain types of rugged terrain with your rental car.
