    Pocket Guide: Peru

Located in the western part of the South American continent, the country of Peru borders the Pacific Ocean on the west and the Andes mountain range on the east. Consequently, guests of hotels in Peru have a variety of available outdoor activities depending on their own personal tastes and preferences. Those who prefer to go deep sea fishing can charter boats from businesses located in Peru's coastal communities, while visitors who prefer mountains can visit the Altiplano plateau or go mountain climbing in the Andes. Adventure tourism is highly popular in Peru because of the vast variations of terrain that lie within the country's borders. Guests staying in Peru hotels can go sailing, skiing, surfing, fishing, and rock climbing all within the same week. The waves off the coast of Peru are world-renowned among serious surfers.

    "Very nice hotel"
We only stayed at Casa Andina for 1 night, but the staff was very pleasant and helpful in every way. The breakfast buffet had everything you might want. This was the only hotel on our trip, however, that didn't provide free bottled water - a nicety that we'd gotten accustomed to while in Peru. The rooms were very comfortable. The pool is VERY warm - almost like a hot tub. It was nice to have a computer room so we could print our boarding passes. The neighborhood, as you arrive, looks uninviting, but take the time to stroll to Kennedy Parque and you'll enjoy seeing the neighborhood life. We were there on a Sat/Sun and watched local people dancing, feeding the local cats, and just enjoying the park.

    "Lovely night at the Radisson"
After being booked into a terrible hotel with a tour I jumped onto expedia or find something a little nicer and came across the Radisson which I booked. Ten minutes later when I arrived at the Radisson all the paperwork was in order and they had a room clean and ready for me. The hotel was central to nice shops and good restaurants but best of all there was limited street noise and comfy beds. The staff were great and the breakfast awesome with the best scrambled eggs I've had in a very long time. In the event that I come back to Lima I will definitely stay there again.

    "Clean Rooms; VERY friendly staff!"
A bit out from the center of things, but a great value with clean rooms, and a very friendly and helpful staff. I stayed threes night and was allowed a (very) early check-in and a late check-out without any hassles. There does seem to be a bit of construction going on during the day, and the noise can be a bit much, (though not before nine or ten AM). Honestly this is not the Hotel for you if you are looking for a "Hotel experience"; (no pool, basic services, etc.). It is however an excellent base from which to explore one of the most fascinating areas in the world!

    "A superior hotel experience"
We had a fantastic and memorable experience at the Belmond Monasterio. From the moment we arrived to beyond when we had departed, the Monasterio provided us with the best possible service and left us wishing we had spent more time there. Our trip got off to a bad start: due to misinformation from the airline, our luggage was left behind in Lima, so we only had the bags on our backs when we arrived. Monasterio was immediately attentive to our plight, took down all of our information, and told us they would contact some people to see what they could do. The airline told us that the earliest we would see our bags was 7pm the following day; somehow, we got a call the next morning from the hotel staff saying our bags would be arriving shortly, then a follow up when they arrived, followed by delivery to our room. Like magic. The second area where Monasterio stood out was in its concierge service. Not only did they help with dinner reservations, but they helped us arrange a driver to Poroy (train to Machu Picchu), stored our luggage while we were away, then made sure our luggage was with the driver when he picked us up on the return (since we were going to another hotel). I could go on and on, especially given how our second hotel in Cusco fell short. Bottom line: If you can manage it, stay at the Monasterio in Cusco. You will not regret spending a bit more...
