"Great and perfect medium budget place to stay !"
The beach is across the street, there is a drug store pharmacy on the corner, cash machines around the corner, convenient supermarket around the block, and a quick taxi ride to all the sites. They have an on site tour activity agency to help organize everything for you. The restaurant is perfect - fresh fruit, veggies and varied food themes. The whole staff is just excellent and super friendly - they all go out of their way to help and make you feel welcome and at home. The rooms are clean, comfortable and cool - the price for value is excellent and I would highly recommend this place and will stay here again for my next visit.

    "Great time, great experience!!!"
The hotel is absolutely beautiful, its architecture dates from the 40s and they have done a wonderful job to preserve it. the internal gardens are relaxing and magical, where you can experience wild life such as baby deer, sloth, toucans, falcons and variety of colorful birds. The rooms have been brought up to current modern looks, with very comfy beds and ample space, where you can relax and have a good night sleep. You will not hear any noise from the street, or other rooms due to the sturdy construction of the building. The location was perfect, across the street of bocagrande beach, where the hotel has complementary umbrellas and chairs at your disposition, full service restaurant for drinks and snacks brought to you by the hotel personnel that are extremely amicable. They will tell you not to buy from street vendors that roam around the beach all day long... we didn't buy art crafts, but we got massages from the ladies at the beach, they were so much fun and extremely good misuses, with them you can experience the local flavor of Cartagena, for $15-$20 they will do a complete body massage and tell you fun stories for you to have a good laugh... granted that you have to understand spanish to enjoy that part, still if you dont you will be very happy with the front beach massage :) You are only 5-10 mins away from the city center (walled city) and the taxis or buses will take you there for $2-$4 per ride. We couldn't be happier with the hotel, looking forward to go back

    "ColombianNon-Residents shouldn't be charged 16%Tax"
Arrived at hotel, asked for a room, but the hotel wanted to charge over $100 in Pesos to Dollar exchange rate, more than Expedia for the same room, so I booked the room from my cell phone right in front of front desk persona at $100 less. (The Dollar was at 2,620 Col Pesos, but the hotel converts at 2,200 Col Pesos). I was born in Colombia but as many fellow Colombians I have been living abroad for many (30) years, so I have both Colombian and Dutch passports as the law requieres us to do so. The hotel staff insisted that I had to pay 16% additional tax, because I entered the country with my Colombian passport. I informed them that the Colombian immigration requieres us to enter with our Colombian passports, but that they also inform you that the "Entrada" stamp on the Colombian passport proves that I live abroad and SHOULD NOT PAY ANY ADDITIONAL 16% TAX as I am not a Colombian Resident. The Dutch passport and other Identification documents can also prove that. The hotel staff came up then with some "number 5" system that should be checked by the officer on the passport stamp, and by then I realised that I was losing my time with a hotel that uses its own judging system. I have stayed two times at this hotel, but won't stay again until they fix the 16% issue for Colombian Non-Residents. P.S. The light enters at the end of the curtain and hits you right in the face every morning, due to the location of the bed and the gap between the curtain and the wall.

"The NEW Kid the Block Stole its Lunch"
This used to be the "better" hotel in the area of Calle 70 in Estadio. Still it had its problems, but as the best management did nothing. Breakfast is repetitive and limited. It takes no effort or skill to spruce it up, but they did not. The windows and walls are razor thing to the point that you cannot sleep well at night if you face Calle 70 in on direction OR, in the opposite direction if you face the Church. The early morning service given through a microphone will awaken the dead! The hotel made no effort to sound proof its facilities. Come now, the Hotel Dorado on Calle 70, a sparkling tower about a block away with soundproofed rooms, a breakfast buffet and large spacious rooms and the Egina is looking poorly. Its only grace is the price, $32 on average purchased on line. The Dorado is about $58, but so much better. Its worth the price any day!
