Crappy hotel in a stunning location

Posted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: There's not a whole lot to love, but my room was clean and comfy enough. Noise from hallways and adjoining rooms might be a concern for light sleepers
Cons: It's badly in need of a complete overhaul.
Location: The location is excellent. If you love La Jolla, it's absolutely ideal. It sits directly across the street from Scripps Park and La Jolla Cove Beach.
You stay at this place for the location, not the hotel itself. It's old and drab - not nasty, just way outdated and a bit dingy. I was fine with just having a place to lay my head, knowing that the location was worth it. My wife is a lot more picky and would not have been OK with it, but I was on my own for this trip. Think of it more like a drive-in motel, because that's really what it's like.

Great location - relax and enjoy.

Posted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: Location, Location, Location - and a very freidnly and helpful staff.
Cons: Rooms could use some upgrading - add a microwave.
Location: Great location for the beach - swimming, snorkelling and watching the seals. Nice art galleries, gifr shops and restaurants within walking distance.
This is a great location if you're there for the beach. Would recommend spending the extra and getting a beach view room (3rd of 4th floor). Both sunrises and sunsets are spectacular and sitting out on the balcony listening to the waves was very relaxing. Rooms are nothing special, but certainly adequate. Roof top breakfast and pool areas are both very nice. Good access up the back steps to Prospect street making gallery hoping and restaurants very accessible. The hotel staff was as friendly and helpful as any place we've ever stayed. Previous issues with the road construction no longer a problem as they have finished the area in front of the hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is old & in need of renovation.

Posted Mar 21, 2015
Pros: Location terrific. Nice rooftop terrace with continental breakfast. Terrific views. Everything walkable. Bed was very comfortable.
Cons: overall rooms need to be updated as well as bathrooms.
Location: lots of shopping, cove nearby with park area across the street. Lots of terrific restaurants
Small, tiny room no room to spare or space to manuever. We had everything on the floor. We faced a parking lot. There is no a/c so you have to leave the screen open and you hear noise of people walking by. The bathroom is in heavy need of refurbishment no shelf space and a shower that was scary. I would not walk barefoot in it. It is the size of a small head on a cruise ship. It's reasonably clean but old. Needs better lighting in bedroom area. Very dark especially at night.

I will not reommend at all this hotel

First of all I made a mistake testing the room comfort excellent it was merely substandard If you book an ocean front room you might have a better room but with the fishy smell of the sea lions

Great price for location in aged hotel

Posted Mar 18, 2015
Pros: I loved the views and location, the size of the suite, and breakfast on the terrace overlooking the ocean.
Cons: The room itself is very aged and outdated. I think the bathrooms desperately need renovated.
Location: The hotel is right across from a cove where there is a beach and water activities and it is very close to shops and restaurants.
We had a large corner suite facing the cove where we could hear the sea lions and had a balcony with gorgeous views. I can't say enough about how pretty the views were! There was construction across the street from our room that was noisy and started early each day. The sea lions can also be very noisy, but at least the sea lion noise was a novelty and I really liked being able to watch them from the balcony. The room itself was clean enough and spacious. We had a kitchen, dining area, living room, bathroom, and one bedroom. The shower had very low water pressure and was dark, dingy, cramped and not real pleasant. There was a separate bathtub that was small, but usable. The bed was comfortable and overall we were pleased with the room. Had I not had such great views and so much space, I am not sure if I would have enjoyed the room so much. It is very dated. The continental breakfast on the terrace is very nice. They offered coffees, teas, hot chocolate, juices, milk, cereals, muffins, bagels, waffles, apples, oranges, bananas, and oatmeal. The hotel pool is heated and there is a hot tub and sauna, but we only used the pool. Overall, I would recommend this hotel but advise you to try to get a room with a view for maximum enjoyment.

Pros: Close to the beach
Cons: Breakfast could include yogurt. And for a place in Southern California, there was no fresh fruit for breakfast.
They were doing road construction in front of the hotel for our entire stay. We were not told of this before our arrival and we were not offered a discount on our room stay because of this.
