"Incredible Experience, 5 star service."
The Viceroy is a rare little gem, tucked away in a jungle setting, very Bohemian in decor. Beautiful, well designed villas grace the property down winding paths of tropical landscape. The staff appears from nowhere offering fabulous service that would rival any I have ever experienced. "Use this property as if it were your home." This was their motto. We had a Wedding Vow Renewal and celebrated 32 years of marriage, they planned a surprise evening for my husband decorated beautifully on the lawn in a private setting. I can't think of a better way to enjoy a vacation should you choose the all inclusive option, you will never leave the property. An awesome experience and lovely way to spend a truly blissful vacation.

The Royal Playa del Carmen All Inclusive Spa & Resort

"Awesome place, adults only & great restaurants!"
I chose The Royal at Playa del Carmen on a whim less than 2 weeks before deciding to book a solo trip, having never been to Playa. I chose The Royal based on "adults only" policy and the restaurant reviews, because foodies do not want buffet/cafeteria style food on vacation. I have to say that I got extremely lucky in choosing this place! The staff was amazing, the grounds and facilities were awesome, the beach beautiful, and the proximity to 5th Avenue just a block away for shopping and local food outside the resort. Inside the resort, Asiana had to be the best restaurant, hands down! It's all-inclusive, a first for me, and that was fun to experience. I did it all, including room service. I sprang for extras like bottles of premium wine (take the unfinished bottle back to your room for later!), a Mayan massage, and the tasting menu one night at Chef's Plate. I can't say enough about this place and am looking forward to the next time!!! If you are single and want to take a solo trip to Playa, rest assured that THIS is your place! It's safe, close to everything so no taxis are required unless you want to venture much farther away if not on a booked excursion, and the food is awesome!

Great hotel, beaches and food. Beaches are great to try snorkeling, warm water, no waves and lots of fish. Club wasn't very busy but could just be time of year

"It's ok"
Food was mediocre, lots of little stuff was broken if you looked carefully, hotel staff was VERY good, drinks we sub par especially the frozen ones, lunch food was terrible, dinner was not bad but not great, but it was cheap, overall it wasn't bad for a long weekend.

"Impressed the hard to impress!!!"
My husband and I just returned from a 5 day stay and honestly had an amazing time! The staff was very friendly and provided outstanding service! The restaurants were VERY good as well. The only thing we weren't impressed with was the sushi but we are sushi snobs but everyone else seemed to be impressed. We also didn't try the Italian restaurant because we aren't big pasta eaters. The seafood restaurant though...WOW....the grouper was superb! The steakhouse was excellent as well but the place we ate at everyday was the taco and ceviche bar!!! Holy good! I ate so much octopus ceviche I'm surprised I didn't grow tentacles lol. The drinks were also top shelf and excellent! Just be sure to clarify vodka not gin for a martini! WHEW! If I were to complain about something it would be the seaweed on the beach. It was horrible the first day but after that the did a very good job of cleaning it up. It really didn't bug me that much but if you are a person who wants a perfect beach then you wont like it. We also were able to get chairs under an umbrella each day with no issue!

"Great hotel with great beach"
Hotel was excellent. Grounds are lush and clean with great walking paths. Room was large and clean. Good entertainment with theater shows and live music in lobbies. Meals were good with plenty of variety and locations. Setbacks: 1) property is large so need to use the transportation within the property at times. The wait is too long so can be frustrating. 2) Not enough wait staff to provide drinks at pools nor at the beach. In fact, never had anyone come by while we were at the beach at The Colonia. Long wait at bar. 3) Although most staff were friendly, there were a few that had an attitude which bordered on rudeness.

"Very nice resort & wonderful staff!"
The resort is very nice. We loved that at the Royal we did not need to have towel cards and rec'd top shelf liquor. We also loved that use of the spa facilitates were included. They have an amazing spa with co-ed steam rooms and saunas, etc..We really didn't like how isolated the location is and how far we had to walk to get to the beach, spa, etc...they do have carts available and we usually didn't have to wait too long; only a couple times. The food was mediocre. The desserts were very limited and not good. The rooms are very nice, loved the mini bars and tubs on the balconies. Our main complaint is that the pools are not heated and they were extremely cold!! The Royal pool was boring to us, there is no music and it's very small so we spent most of our time at the Riviera pool or the beach. The staff at this resort are amazing and made our stay very memorable!

"Great resort but it has it's share of downfalls..."
Pros: Clean, Upscale resort with excellent pools. Great food and drinks at both the buffet and restaurants Excellent Prompt Service Cons: Family Concierge is just 'ok'. We saw our concierge maybe 1x a day for 10min. He would just book the restaurants and activities. The timeshare/Club Melia push can outright ruin your vacation. They are pushy, rude, and annoying. The only reason we won't go back is because of the constant timeshare push. Ocean view is nothing great and beach is far and full of seaweed. There are SO MANY resorts in Riviera Maya and anyone that sticks to 1 via timeshare or preference is a fool. We've tried the Iberostar, RIU and time we will try the Bahia or the Barceló....

"Nice resort. Amazing coffee shop"
Very nice all inclusive resort. The staff was welcoming and helpful. Grounds are well maintained. Our room had partial ocean view, it was clean and we liked it. The beach was AWFUL!!! Tons of sea weed made swimming in the sea impossible. They attempt to clean every day (all day) but I don't suppose there's much to do about that. We walked for miles on the beach, left and right of the resort, and the situation was no better. Not sure if it was the location or the time of year but we didn't experience the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea (as we have before near Playa del Carmen). The pools are nice. They have 4 on property. We enjoyed the quiet pool. Drinks were not bad, I don't know why people complain about that all the time. Another thing I don't get is people who don't tip! I think a dollar for a drink is fair. Food was good. I recommend the Italian restaurant for outdoor dining, it's very romantic. The coffee shop was amazing. Overall, you get what you pay for, nothing over the top but a nice resort nonetheless. Enjoy!
