"Great hotel very attentive staff"
My husband and I stayed at The Royal in June of 2015. The staff was so attentive to our every need. I felt very taken care of there. The food and drinks were amazing too. It was by far the best all inclusive food and top shelf drinks I've ever had.

"Great atmosphere and staff!"
The staff and amenities were excellent. So much to do to stay busy. Clean rooms and pools. The atmosphere is so alive and full of music! The rooms walls were kind of thin, but overall nice rooms. Also there is no real access/beach to the ocean. But, the pools are excellent!

"Honeymoon"
We spent 7 days here on our honeymoon and it was everything we wanted and expected. The restaurants, food and drinks are great. The staff is equally amazing and incredibly friendly. If your expecting a hotel full of younger kids and partying you will be disappointed. It is geared towards relaxing and enjoying the weather. The only knock you can make about the hotel is the beach is covered in seaweed all the time which is no fault of their own. They have staff cleaning it up and moving it throughout the day, but it is a never ending battle and something we expected going into our trip based on previous reviews.

"Great hotel with great beach"
Hotel was excellent. Grounds are lush and clean with great walking paths. Room was large and clean. Good entertainment with theater shows and live music in lobbies. Meals were good with plenty of variety and locations. Setbacks: 1) property is large so need to use the transportation within the property at times. The wait is too long so can be frustrating. 2) Not enough wait staff to provide drinks at pools nor at the beach. In fact, never had anyone come by while we were at the beach at The Colonia. Long wait at bar. 3) Although most staff were friendly, there were a few that had an attitude which bordered on rudeness.

"Very good stay. Enjoyed"
Excellent hotel. Very good staff, helpfull and always available. Beside 2 days where the begening of the tropical storm Bill drowned us in rain so even food and room service were very limited due to lack of ingredients, the remaining of the week was wonderful. The food was passable at lunch and dinner but everything else was excellent. The SPA facilities were world class and personel very professional. As seen in most reviews the beach is full of seaweeds and unpleasant to swim in but the sand is cleaned daily and is tropical white. Special thanks to Alondra and Ricardo from VIP service, to Jesus from world café and to Angelica for the room cleaning.

"Nice adult-exclusive hotel with large rooms"
We did not know that Royal Suites is one small little hotel within the large Palladium compound. We initially booked this place because we thought it would be right off the beach, but we actually needed to walk quite a bit, or take the shuttle. Finding the Royal Suites lobby in itself was difficult since there was a lack of signs of where Royal Suites is located, but we eventually found it nestled deep north of the compound. The beach here was filled with seaweed, making it difficult to get into ocean. Snorkeling here was really blah, have to go elsewhere. The rooms were large and there was even a hot tub in it. We loved the idea of a private hot tub, but ended up only using it once. The room was clean and spacious, and enjoyed it. You can go to any of the restaurants within the Palladium compound. We tried Brazilian BBQ, mediterranean food, Japanese teppanyaki, and the steak house. All the food there was pretty mediocre, our least favorite being the steak house (steaks were very tough and chewy), and our favorite being Mare Nostrum (mediterranean). You can make reservations, and we barely had any wait going in with reservations. Service is hit or miss here. We encountered some who were really awesome and accommodating, some who were just terrible, but most of them were average. Most of them really had a hard time understanding English, but with my limited Spanish, we survived. I probably wouldn't come back here, unless there's a super awesome special.

"Some short comings, but,"
Many of the negatives were beyond the Hotel's control. A fire closed 2 of the restaurants & nightclub. Thus limiting the dining variety and choices and making it difficult to get prime dining times. A seaweed invasion essentially closed the beaches. And stinch was awful! The many pools were great and my grandkids had a great time. I highly recommend a swim up room. Great pool services! Because of the lack of activities at the hotel, booking off sight activities is a must if your stay is beyond 4 or 5 days.

"Nice overall"
It's the first time we have gone as a family. There was 9 of us with two 3 year olds for a total of 11. We had 3 rooms. two of the rooms were connected but we were on the opposite side to our family members. It wasn't to bad of a distance. Our room was on the 4th floor and unfortunately the elevator was not working the entire week we were there. It made us walk off some of the buffet. It did rain for 2 days after our arrival so that was disappointing as the kids were anxious to get in the pool. Of course to no fault to anyone. We can't control the weather. Due to the heavy rain the hotel did try to incorporate children's activities in the lobby that my kids participated in but the majority of the hotel guests were in the lobby making it really crowded. Finally the rain stopped and we were able to enjoy the pool. The beach had a ton of seaweed. That was disappointing as I love the beach and was looking forward to the Caribbean waters. The hotel tried to clean up the seaweed but it was just too much. Apparently the hotel staff stated that the seaweed is not always that bad, but that it was the seaweed going through a cycle and cleaning itself on to the beach. The hotel did have several restaurants to choose from, but because we were away from the town we kind of felt stuck at the hotel and we were not able to "explore" Cancun. The taxi fees were outrageous! It turned out to be a great family vacation, and we would go back again.

    The Best Time to Visit

If you have some flexibility in timing your vacation through Expedia.com to one of the all-inclusive Riviera Maya resorts, you may want to visit in the dry season. The best weather is between late November and April. However, as with any vacation destination, the rates at Riviera Maya, Mexico, resorts are typically higher during the peak season. July through August and December through January are the most popular seasons. The rest of the year is considered the off-season and boasts smaller crowds, except for Easter vacation when locals and visitors rush to the beach.

    Historical and Cultural Attractions

The Riviera Maya is also home to some of the most fascinating natural and historical landmarks in Mexico. Two of the top Mayan ruins are the port at Tulum and Chichen Itza. The centerpiece at Chichen Itza is the Kukulkan pyramid as well as walking trails through a complex of Mayan ruins and temples. The famous Cenote Sagrado is also nearby. In Tulum, the ruins are on top of an outcropping that overlooks the sea, providing spectacular views, especially in the early morning.

    Resort Amenities

At the best resorts in Riviera Maya, you can expect excellent amenities, including free Wi-Fi, refrigerators, and bottled water. All hotels offer at least one swimming pool, beach access with umbrellas, and lounge chairs. A Riviera Maya spa will offer full spa treatments, including in-room massages and relaxing rubdowns on the beach after a long day of surfing. Most resorts also offer easy access to golf courses, water sports such as windsurfing, water skiing lessons, skydiving, and eco-tours. Resorts typically house at least one, and sometimes several, excellent on-site restaurants to please even the most discerning palate. Some even have nightclubs and discos. Your suite is like a home away from home with slippers, bathrobes, and DVD players.

    The Mysteries of the Yucatan

The Riviera Maya is in one of the most fascinating natural environments in the world, home to breathtaking cenotes and caves. These natural wonders are created by an underground river that runs the length of the peninsula. The Rio Secreto has seemingly endless rooms and passageways full of stalactites and stalagmites that have transformed it into a magical underground world. The area also offers some of the best scuba diving in the Caribbean with the Cenote Dos Ojos in Playa Del Carmen where certified divers can explore miles of underground rivers and discover hidden caverns. Other sites include statues hidden only to people standing on the shore. Divers can see the monumental underwater museum created by Jamie Gonzales Cano. It contains more than 500 permanent, life-size sculptures of people, which are fast becoming home to the local marine life. If diving’s not your thing, you’re in luck. There is one exhibition that is only for snorkelers.
