About this property
Little Bird Casita: Have the Experience the New Mexico Traveler Hopes to Find.
A PLACE THAT FEELS GOOD
Experience what New Mexico travelers hope to find with dark skies, open space, birdsong mornings, peaceful evenings, and genuine Southwestern hospitality rooted in the land, just minutes from Albuquerque.
Nestled along a quiet rural road less than a mile from Historic pre-1937 Route 66, the Casita sits near one of New Mexico’s oldest travel corridors, making it an ideal base for road-trippers, photographers, bird watchers, and travelers drawn to a slower pace. Spend the day exploring Albuquerque, catching a concert, discovering local restaurants, or wandering New Mexico’s wide-open landscapes, then return to the shade of mature pecan and cottonwood trees and peaceful evenings beneath dark skies. Here, the “amenities” are often provided by the land itself: crisp, deep well water, solar-powered living, diverse wildlife, and a quiet that settles in almost immediately. Private enough to slow down and breathe, yet close enough for restaurants, museums, and adventure, Little Bird Casita offers the rare balance of restorative retreat and genuine convenience.
"It's so rare to find a place that feels this far from everything — and yet you're minutes from everything you need." — Guest review
100% solar-powered. Deep-well water, clean, cold, and straight from the tap. A working farm / semi-rural setting with mature trees, an active apiary, and open fields where cranes land and roadrunners appear.
Guests who value thoughtful travel and meaningful places tend to love it here. Your footprint stays light, the land around you feels alive, and yes the water really does taste that good.
Guests are often surprised how quickly they can reach restaurants, concerts, shopping, and Albuquerque attractions while still enjoying a truly peaceful setting. The Little Bird Casita is the kind of place guests often wish they had booked longer.
PERFECT FOR • Couples and solo travelers seeking quiet, dark skies and real rest • Families (two levels, full kitchen, in-unit laundry, big yard, trail next door) • Concert and showgoers (Isleta Amphitheater 10–15 min; Sandia Resort, KiMo Theatre and First Financial Amphitheater 15-20 min) • Birdwatchers and nature lovers (sandhill cranes, roadrunners, hummingbirds, flickers, and more) • Road-trippers (minutes from I-25 or I-40 and <1 mile to historic pre 1937 Route 66) • Dog owners (large yard, trail steps away; multiple dogs welcome) • Remote workers (fast Wi Fi, dedicated workspace, and far less city noise) • New Mexico explorers have easy day trips to Petroglyph, Sandia Tram, Santa Fe, Taos, White Sands, Valles Caldera, hot air ballooning, and more
OTHER DETAILS TO NOTE • Two-story layout: bedroom suite and full bath upstairs (stairs only; no elevator). Please reach out if mobility is a concern. • Sleeps 4: queen bed upstairs + queen fold-out sofa downstairs (most comfortable for children or one adult). • Quiet working farm / semi-rural setting in Albuquerque’s South Valley. Expect open space, mature trees, birdsong, wildlife, and dark skies rather than a typical city neighborhood. • Small on-site apiary (beehives). Most guests enjoy it, but please consider if anyone has bee allergies. • Pet-friendly: multiple dogs welcome with advance notice. • Self check-in via digital door code (detailed arrival instructions sent before you arrive). • House rules: No parties; minimum booking age 25. Check-in 3 PM / checkout 11 AM (often flexible, just ask). • Hosts on-site (David and Joanie) and happy to help, while fully respecting your privacy. In season, you’re welcome to pick fruit near the entrance—just let us know.
LIVE MUSIC, GREAT FOOD AND EASY NIGHTS OUT Enjoy the city, then drive 10–25 minutes back to open fields, dark skies, and truly restful sleep.
Live music and events • Isleta Amphitheater — ~10–15 min (premier outdoor venue; a favorite concert-night home base) • Sandia Amphitheater (Hard Rock Casino) — ~20 min (major touring acts in a Pueblo-inspired setting) • KiMo Theatre — ~25 min (1927 Pueblo Deco landmark and one of the Southwest’s most striking small theaters) • First Financial Amphitheater — ~25 min (outdoor summer concerts in a beautiful setting) • Albuquerque Convention Center and Civic Plaza — ~19 min (events, festivals, and outdoor summer festivities)
Dining • Cocina Familia is a local New Mexican restaurant right up the street (guests often go back multiple nights) • Sawmill Market ~25 min (vibrant food hall with standout local chefs) • Old Town Albuquerque ~25 min (historic plazas, galleries, and classic New Mexican cooking) • Nob Hill ~25 min (independent restaurants, cocktail bars, and the city’s most eclectic strip)
LOCATION Rio Grande South Valley is Albuquerque’s semi-rural southern edge. Farms, cottonwoods, and open space: quiet enough to feel like the country, yet connected enough to be genuinely convenient.
Quick distances • Historic pre 1937 Route 66: <1 mile • Pajarito Open Space trail: steps from the property • Local New Mexican restaurant: right up the street • Grocery / Walmart + El Mesquite Mexican market: a few minutes away • Petroglyph National Monument: ~15 min • ABQ Airport: ~20 min • Downtown / Old Town / Nob Hill: ~25 min • I 25 and I 40 access: minutes away
WHAT GUESTS ARE SAYING "La Casita is AMAZING! I loved it so much as soon as I walked in… so much I wanted to extend my stay, unfortunately, they were booked out. Super clean space, very beautiful and with lots of personality, amazing views, very spacious and a very well equipped kitchen. Also, David was very responsive, friendly, and attentive.
If you come across this listing, BOOK immediately, you won’t regret it. When I come back to New Mexico I will be staying here again, 100%."
"It's so rare to find a place that feels this far from everything — and yet you're minutes from everything you need."

Very clean, comfortable, well-appointed, spacious property with full kitchen and bathroom on each level. Pet-friendly. Quiet location, away from major traffic, but still accessible to major highways, attractions, shopping & restaurants. Host was very gracious, patient, and available when we had a question. We had a positive experience & would book again.
Great stay- enjoyed watching the bees 🐝 in the evening and listening to the local roosters in the morning while having coffee on the patio. Beautiful place❤️
After a 17hr drive from California, I arrived at this hidden gem with my wife to this secluded and private heaven on earth. Extremely peaceful and quiet. Friendly at check in. Very accommodating. I live in Abq now but this place will definitely be a staycation
Nice 2-story with everything you need. Very clean, nice decor, spacious rooms m, w/d, & full kitchen. Nicely decorated. Very private on a large rural property with mature trees & quiet surroundings. Outside of town, but close to shopping center & restaurants. Definitely recommended!
This property was so nice and peaceful in a very beautiful neighborhood. The casita is a stand alone property next the owner's home but they are not connected. The grounds were so lovely and the weather was perfect! I loved that they had green grass for my dog Max! The inside was warm and cozy with lots of room and it had everything I needed. I hope to return again soon! I had a wonderful stay!
This is an excellent rental. A real gem! It was clean, well supplied, roomy, comfortable bed, great in every way. Very peaceful. There is a balcony. We so much enjoyed sitting there in the afternoon, reading and watching birds. Even a Road Runner made a few visits! This location is great! We are bird watchers. We were able to easily get to a number of bird watching hot spots. Stores and restaurants were close by. The owners are extremely nice and helpful. We highly recommend this rental.
We arrived later in the evening after dark so the owner of the property came out of his adjacent main home next the VRBO to direct us since it was difficult seeing. He seemed nice. We left around 5:30 the following morning before the same came up so obviously we did not stay long but everything was clean and as expected so no problems there. It did a great job of serving us for what we needed it for.
Little Bird Casita was too wonderful for words! Our hosts, David and Joanie, were extremely hospitable and communication was great. The casita was filled with beautiful art, giving us a sweet sense of the culture and history of the Southwest. Every little amenity was carefully incorporated into that lovely space. Little Bird was the perfect location for our base as we enjoyed Albuquerque and daily explored other NM cities. Some of our favorite discoveries were the New Mexico Museum of Geology & Mineral Resources, the Nuclear Museum, The Indian Pueblo Culture Museum (a must see! And, there is a nice restaurant there!), the Ice Cave and Bandera Volcano, the Sandia Peak Tramway, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum, the NM History Museum (and all things Santa Fe!), Taos shopping, White Sands National Park, Pistachioland, the Jemez Pueblo (gorgeous fall color and lovely local people!), Soda Dam, Battleship Park, Red Rock, Valles Caldera, the Petroglyph National Monument, The Back Country Trail, and hiking the mountain trails as well as the walking trail behind the casita! It was so nice to come back to the comfort and beauty of Little Bird at the end of each fun day. We highly recommend this VRBO. It could not have been more perfect!
Trying to find the best seat in the house when there are so many best seats was my only dilemma. Do I enjoy my toast and tea on the back patio outside the kitchen or do I take it to the deck off the bedroom upstairs?
David was attentive without being intrusive.
We truly felt like we were alone on a ranch.
The sunsets are gorgeous from this location and the accessibility to downtown is a breeze. We made three trips to The Sawmill for excellent meals, but if you prefer to cook at the Casita, it's set up for it.
The Casita is clean as a whistle and everything is coordinated beautifully. A lovely stay!
Great communication and super clean space with awesome amenities!

Our stay was very nice. The space was quiet, clean and close to our venue. Our host was very quick to respond to our needs. I would absolutely stay again if I am in town and it is available.
If you want something that’s both cozy and stylish, this is the place. Everything about this place was so unique and beautiful. The hosts are amazing at communication and are so kind, wish we would’ve stayed longer!
Great safe location. Very clean and wonderfully decorated. Highly recommend this casita. Easy to get to anywhere in Albuquerque. I have rented quite a few vrbo rentals all over the country and this will be in my top 3 list.
