From its location in Plaka near the Acropolis and other points of interest including a multitude of shopping and dining choices as well as proximity to public transportation, this hotel delivers. Having arrived at night, the next morning greeted us with a stunning view of the Acropolis from our room. As well, this hotel has an amazing rooftop terrace with still even better views of the Acropolis. For these reasons alone the Hotel Metropolis is a top choice for your next stay in Athens. However, it is the staff and management that sealed it for us. We encountered unexpected difficulties when our cruise was cancelled. An early return home was not feasible as it was prohibitively expensive to rebook our flight. Instead, we decided to make the best of it and see even more of Athens. Hotel Metropolis staff and management were very accommodating by allowing us to extend our stay. As the date of our return flight was approaching, we were advised by our airline that it too was cancelled. Not only did Hotel Metropolis again accommodate us for a couple extra days, but they provided us with a room with a large wrap-around balcony. The compassion and kindness shown to us by the staff and management were truly appreciated. The staff were really nice and the room was very clean and had what we needed. We chose a room with a view and loved it! We could sit in the balcony and watch the city moment with a beautiful view of the Partenon. We loved the location, as we could visit the main attractions by foot, besides being near to restaurants, souvenir stores and even a supermarket. There was no breakfast though during winter, but there are plenty of coffee shops around. The beds were not new but comfortable. The 5th floor family room view and balcony was absolutely incredible. The location was amazing, walking distance to all the sites. The cleanliness and upkeep of the room could be better. It felt like a lot of "do if yourself" work was done by someone that wasn't entirely qualified. For example, the shower head was installed a bit wonky and the toilet seat moved around. We got there early and exhausted from the cruise and he warmly greeted and let us check in early. That was the best part of the day.
