I finally knocked off Linn Cove Viaduct from my Appalachian list. Linn Cove Viaduct is an iconic part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Spanning over 1,200 feet it wraps around Grandfather Mountain. Ever since I saw a photo from here I've always wanted to see it. Just out of chance I was staying at a cabin only 20 minutes from here. So I got up at 6 am to get here for sunrise, which was fogged out, but after waiting a while turned spectacular.

A telephoto view of the foothills from Linn Cove Viaduct. I really loved the fog moving through and the sun rays.
Talk about a view! The view from Linn Cove Viaduct is spectacular. You get the rolling foothills of the Appalachians. With all the sun rays coming through it turned into a truly beautiful morning.
I love this photograph because of the lines it has in it. We can clearly see the lines from the fence leading us outwards into the mountains. When we begin to think of Appalachia, our minds tend to follow the path of stereotypes and judgement because that is what we have always seen others do. But in reality, we have no place to judge. I believe that this frames Appalachia as a contrast more than a similarity. Appalachia seems to not follow the lines or the status quo, but rather does its own thing. And, for many people, this makes them feel uncomfortable. But, as we can see, not following the lines will create a new culture. #appalachianechoes
