The accommodations, staff, on-site activities (or in-activities, if you so choose), dining, vibe and local area beauty/events make Wild Rice a unique destination - offering an unforgettable experience!
The property is on Lake Superior with a woodland walking path, and has fun art inside and out. The food is healthy and delicious, all the staff are so helpful and the free programing is great. And, of course, Bayfield has a lot to offer, from national parks to great gift stores to a relaxed vibe. The ferry ride to Madeline Island is a lot of fun. And picking fruit on the orchards overlooking the city is a bonus.
We very much enjoyed our stay here. The food was amazing and the property was so peaceful. It was a much-needed getaway for us. We would definitely go back.
The setting cannot be beat for beauty and peacefulness. The staff was amazing and always had such positive attitudes. They seemed truly genuinely concerned about their guests and went out of their way to help make them happy. Wonderful fresh food prepared so creatively!
The Wild Rice Retreat was simply an amazing getaway place - I don't believe there's anything quite like it anywhere else in the Midwest. The Retreat has a Scandinavian-Zen-like vibe with a friendly/attentive staff. The Bayfield area features numerous outdoor and dining experiences that complimented our entire experience.
The room was an absolute haven of tranquility. It was spacious, impeccably clean, and beautifully decorated.
I was able to enjoy complete silence, which was exactly what I needed to unwind and recharge. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, always ready to assist with a smile.
Super comfy retreat nestled in the woods of bayfield. The atmosphere was incredibly laid back and chill. I like how our rooms were broken up so it felt like we had more privacy. The bed was super comfy, not like a normal hotel bed. And i really liked the rain showers! It felt nice to take a hot shower in the rain shower after hiking all day.
My husband and I loved our weekend! It was a perfect reset for our body and mind. First off the bed was the best we have ever slept in. Our next favorite was the sauna and cold plung tub. The atmosphere was very clean, natural, calming and the staff were all very nice. We will be back for sure!
Great place to stay in Bayfield. Units are separate and nicely built in a Scandinavian design. Beautiful grounds and great food. Service was also excellent.
Beautiful quiet stay! We didn’t participate in the yoga but loved the sauna and relaxing by the fires outside. The Nest was beautifully designed and spacious. Insanely comfy bed and gorgeous views. Love that there’s no kids or pets- makes the whole place very calm and quiet! Great couples getaway.

This is a beautiful property right on the shore of Lake Superior and a couple of miles from Bayfield town. This is a quiet location off the beaten path. Perfect for a getaway from stress, noise. Everything is super clean and new. And the service was great!

Escape from the city
If you are looking for a place to truly relax and wind down this is a place! The area is in the middle of the woods on the shore of the lake. Its very quet. We loved the new wooden cabin we stayed in, it’s small and cozy but has everything you need. The staff is very friendly as well. There are yoga/ meditation classes every morning to add to your healthy get away. The whole place just created to forget your busy life and take time to care for yourself.
We really loved the food, sauna, hikes. We didn’t get a chance to do any classes. I wish the room was bigger. I thought I was getting a pod by ourselves. I didn’t know it was so small. I would go back and get a bigger pod. Very frendly staff.
No hot water
No AC and no fabs stifling hot
No water or breakfast included in the room price
Skylight lit room at 4:45 am making sleep impossible
Food meager in portion
If you are looking for a place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, that lives up to the images conjured up by the word “retreat”, Wild Rice Retreat is unbeatable in every way. Tucked away just south of Bayfield, gateway to the only National Park in Wisconsin, you’ll find yourself immersed in the natural beauty of the lodging built from locally-sources and eco-friendly
materials. Yoga classes are led by the owner who is welcoming and friendly to newcomers of yoga, as are the front desk staff, and free to guests, as is the sauna. The food is both nutritious and delicious, a rare combination! My partner and I discovered the retreat through Expedia, with the intent to find a nice place to stay while exploring Apostle Islands and Bayfield, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that many of the guests were there for the community experience of an all-inclusive wellness expedition! If that’s not what you’re looking for or want, that’s okay too-staff and guests are accommodating of your needs. Overall, it was a superb experience that makes you fall in love with Wisconsin (again) if you’ve been too busy to enjoy it, or are a first-timer to the state!
The retreat is orientated to a particular demographic of sophomoric tourist expecting to enjoy plenty of coffee books and nut snacks that decorate the interior. If you like spaces that encourage serendipitous praise to "the founder" like you've entered Plato's mediocre academy of virtue signaling, then I recommend Wild ... I have already forgotten the full name (the "w" has been found plastered on everything like Tesla). I can't be bothered to read anymore ads about this place or the unique philosophy of its owner. It's like any other traditional American faux Scandinavian resort, you sleep in separate RV trailers converted with a combination of industrial wood and Ikea furniture to create enough privacy where you can't usually hear your neighbor but will ultimately see their sneering face as they name drop their engineer friend's work location and how one night of yoga has transformed their essential whole. 2 nights stay seem like the usual. I needed 3 until I felt any sense of peace and that was off-site. What I did love was having access to salad and coffee two times daily. The kitchen and professional house keepers are serious reasons to consider staying. But if you're visiting the area without a planned program on-site, I can't recommend staying. It's a decent place to start your up north vacation but doesn't live up to the hype.

Don’t Pay Big Bucks For Pretty!
Lovely place but the resort fee wasn’t a value. The Tree Haus is a shared space was beautiful but very uncomfortable. Only the shared space area has an air conditioner the small room does not, just a fan and it’s hot with absolutely no closet space besides bathroom drawers. No way to cool your room by opening the door because no privacy or feeling of safety due to strangers being moved in/out of the 3 other rooms. WiFi is terrible and no housekeeping to provide towels or cleaned the share space. When we asked for clean towels the gave us only large towels. We spent a lot of money to be hot, have no privacy, no closet space, no TV, bad WIFI, cleaned up after ourselves, no feelings of safety due to strangers moving into the other 3 rooms, no building phone to call for help or services if needed and fresh food was good but we stayed4 days and the same food was recycled into different ways. On the positive side there was a closet designated for each of the 4 rooms downstairs but no lock and inconvenient. The Tree Haus rooms appear to be an afterthought, poorly designed for adult guests and just to make money. More attention and comfort for the other more private parts of the retreat. Stay away from this place if only the Tree Haus is available. It’s a beautiful space with access to a walking trail, multiple mosquitoes, and a view of Lake Superior near the trail but save your money for other places and yoga classes
