“Powter Howe is a wonderful place to stay. So welcoming and homely for a B&B. A beautiful old house and garden, plenty of space, very peaceful, a lovely breakfast and open fire in the evening. Mrs Lockwood is an excellent host, and the other guests who stayed during my 9-night visit were very pleasant as well. There are lovely short walks nearby to the lake and in the woods, and only 10 minutes drive to Keswick. I hope to be back soon.”

“We thought the hosts were really lovely and the location of the guesthouse was ideal for us for walking. There are two pubs within walking distance which serve fantastic food: Coledale inn and Royal Oak. However, we had a downstairs room and seemed to have been really unlucky with the guests upstairs who woke us up every hour during the night. “We had a wonderful stay. Our room was small but very comfortable with views of the hills. The tea and coffee choices are the best I've ever seen anywhere. Lorna is a lovely host and makes the best breakfast with plenty of choices. The location is approx. 15 minutes walk into Keswick and the Threkeld trail, just down the hill, make walking there better away from the traffic. We would definitely recommend Brookfield and hope to vist again. ”

“This is our third stay in the cottage and now feels like home from home. We were initially a little disappointed on arrival as the patio doors were so dirty (from the nesting birds) we had to clean the them ourselves in order to see out. The cottage could also benefit from new pillows as they are very flat. Other than that had a very enjoyable visit made even better by seeing a red Squirrel in the garden on last day that and nice weather made the holiday for us. ”
