Family-friendly slopeside fun with a water park
The towering trees that stand sentinel over the grassy meadow can tell the story of the Chalk Creek stagecoach stopping to water the weary horses in the Wilsey ditch while the tenacious riders are talking of how nice it would be to have a comfortable cabin just on the edge of this meadow where you could watch the bighorn sheep traverse down the mountain to graze.

Fast forward to 2020. That same stagecoach road is now a driveway. The same ditch runs through the property. The same grassy meadow is still the salad bowl for bighorn sheep and other wildlife. But now there is the rider's dream cabin, BigHorn On The Wilsey. A 1300 SF custom-built immaculate, well-insulated, 3 BR, 2 BA home. Soothing designer colors on the walls bring the outside in. Go to any window and it becomes a frame for the beauty of nature ~ tall pine trees, quaking aspen, willows, and outstanding 14er mountain views. The shady front porch is the place to relax on a hot summer day. A leisurely walk down the drive yields a view of the Wilsey ditch and grassy meadows. A variety of wildlife drink from the ditch. The bighorn sheep viewing meadow is adjacent to the property. While the rest of us park our vehicles and hope to see the bighorn sheep in the few moments we are there, you have a front row seat to the mountain they climb in order to reach the meadow. The cabin and its 2 acres are surround on 3 sides by USFS/State land. No neighbors in sight. No roads in sight. No noise. Clear starry skies. 100% nature. This is Colorado perfect.

Occupancy: Six (6); One King bed; One Queen bed; One Twin bed with OneTwin Trundle in open loft sleeping area; 2 Full Bathrooms with Bathtub/Shower Combo (One upper, One main); luxurious designer bedding and linens; designer wares fully stocked in kitchen; Free WiFi; Land-line telephone with Free Local calls; HDTV flat screen TV with Sony DVD/CD player and Bose speakers; Designer propane stove in Great Room; Washer and Dryer; Ample closets/storage; outdoor grill; in-ground fire pit; horseshoe pit; outdoor hot tub!

BigHorn On The Wilsey is your private (and convenient) base for mass exploration; world-renowned white-water rafting or fishing on the Arkansas River, soaking in Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, wildlife viewing on the property, star-gazing the night sky, walking trails (CDOT and Colorado Trail), hiking 14ers, touring ghost towns (St. Elmo, Hancock, Tincup) and other historic sites, taking your Jeep up the 4x4 trails (complete maps inside cabin), gem and mineral collecting on Mt. Antero and Ruby Mountain, fishing nearby lakes, snowshoeing, downhill skiing at Monarch, Nordic skiing, sledding, composing your memoir, reconnecting with loved ones, quiet reflection, and absolute relaxation.

Incredible View
This location simply cannot be beat -- the view from the hot tub and back porch is priceless. The cabin is comfortable, with a spacious kitchen and dining room -- and a new propane grill outside. The beds are soft with more than adequate pillows and bedding. The location feels secluded, but it is an easy drive to Buena Vista and Salida. Highly recommend.

Fantastic anniversary trip!
Wonderful place with such beautiful views! It even snowed on us while in the hot tub! The whole area was great!! We will def be repeat customers!!!!

THE best VRBO!
We have stayed in a lot of VRBOs over the years, but this one is still our favorite and why we are back a second time. On our arrival, we were greeted by a large herd of Bighorn sheep! We watched them for hours. We are all outdoors people so the sheep, and the Elk, mule deer, and antelope we saw driving into the cabin made our day! The cabin, as expected, was just perfect! Beds were comfortable, place was clean, well stocked kitchen, gazing at the stars in the hot tub was so amazing. I was looking forward to it our whole trip. The seclusion and quiet is why we returned. My guys fished chalk lake and other surrounding lakes. I took a hike around the neighborhood and found the Cascade Creek trailhead just a mile west, up the road. Easy 1 mile loop trail that gave me great views of Mt. Antero, a waterfall and information about the area. It was a great find!

One of the best cabins we've stayed in. Beautiful views and setting, very well equipped, and everything as described. The hot tub felt great after skiing all day and the view of the stars at night was fantastic. We even saw the big horn sheep when they wandered through.

Perfect Location With a View
The cabin location can’t be beat! Right out the back door is a postcard worthy view that makes you feel you are a million miles from modern day distractions. However, a short drive puts you back in the mix with great food and shopping in both Buena Vista and Salida. With us spending a couple of days exploring said towns, as well as, enjoying playing in the snow around the cabin, we didn’t even get around to checking out the hot springs a few miles down the road, or going on some of the hiking trails, and I missed out on trout fishing. Bottom line, there is so much to do within a 40 minute (at most) drive from the cabin, it’s hard to get it all in. If staying busy isn’t what you’re looking for, this cabin easily has all a person needs to hold up for days on end. With everything from a well equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, and a quite location with amazing views, you honestly wouldn’t have to leave the cabin. All in all, I would highly recommend this cabin and I hope my family and I will make it back soon.
