Cartago is located approximately 110 miles (177 kilometers) south of Medellin and about 130 miles (209 kilometers) west of Bogota, the capital of Colombia.
No spots are the same; each is blessed with its own distinct personality. So, take to the wide open road and stop by a couple of the other areas in the vicinity of Cartago. Journey 17 miles (27 kilometers) southwest to Pereira, where you can enjoy the Plaza de Bolivar and Pereira Cathedral.
Organise transportation and spend half a day in Ibague, a regional center, 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Cartago. The place offers a wide range of points of interest, including Tolima Theater, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Manuel Murillo Toro Stadium. Should you have the time, why not stop by Tolima Art Museum and University of Tolima before you head back to Cartago.
To learn a little about the the local culture, go straight to Valle del Cauca's craft workshops and history museums. Holy places are the perfect portals into a region's spiritual and religious cultures. The churches around Cartago are certainly no exception.
