Doran Beach is a sheltered stretch of sand at the foot of a regional park and campground. Its secluded location, quiet ambiance and scenic views of rocky outcrops and small islands make it an ideal spot to relax with your family. Lay down a blanket and enjoy a picnic in this tranquil sandy haven.
At times, the winds grow strong and provide excellent conditions for surfing and flying kites. Go beachcombing with your kids along this 2-mile (3-kilometer) stretch of sand. Hobble along the rock jetty at the mouth of the harbor and set up your fishing gear here. Capture crabs and explore tidal pools for sea creatures.
Sunbathe in summer, when you are likely to spot pelicans and seals, among other aquatic creatures. You may hear the barking of sea lions in the distance. Cool off with a swim in the Pacific Ocean.
The beach is among the highlights of the Doran Regional Park, which covers 127 acres (51 hectares) of rugged costal terrain. Note that the park also contains a boat launch and designated picnic areas. This is a protected marine area, meaning wildlife in the zone is preserved. Stroll along the boardwalk and pause at the various viewing platforms.
As part of the regional park, the beach is open daily from sunrise until sunset. Pay a daily fee to park your vehicle in the park. Restrooms and coin-operated showers are available for your convenience.
Doran Beach is on the southern end of the Doran Regional Park on a small promontory that juts out of the Northern California coastline. It is a 10-minute drive southwest from Bodega, opposite the beaches of Bodega Head.
