Ego Alley is a narrow waterway in Annapolis, with stunning views of the Annapolis Harbor and Spa Creek. It is an excellent place to watch the sun set while ambling along the walkway and spotting some of your favorite yachts and other vessels. Sit on one of the benches lining Dock Street and watch people go by in fancy boats in this exclusive part of the city.
Snack on ice cream and other treats and read a book in this tranquil spot or take a pleasant stroll beside the water. The channel takes its name from the pomp and grandeur of these ritzy boats.
Some of the boats will be playing music, while live performances and artistic creations are common on the walkway along the water. View the varied public works of art and consider purchasing the handicrafts that are sometimes on display here. You can even climb aboard certain boats for tours of the waterway and the city.
Admire the festive glow in December, when Christmas lights are set up in dazzling displays along the promenade. Many of the exclusive yachts are bedecked in yuletide radiance.
Enjoy a meal in one of the restaurants and bars lining the street, providing vistas of the water. Come for sunrise to miss the crowds or see the sky turn crimson over the growing silhouettes of the boats at dusk.
Ego Alley is less than 500 feet (150 meters) long. Walk to the northwest end of the waterway and continue on for 5 minutes to reach the Maryland State House.
Find Ego Alley on the eastern side of Annapolis, in the heart of Maryland. It’s just south of the United States Naval Academy and across the water from the district of Eastport. While you’re in this part of the city, make sure to see surrounding highlights such as the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center and two 18th-century homes, the Charles Carroll House and the William Paca House.
