Experience the local lifestyle and harbor views in this busy waterfront town, known for being the gateway to the dramatic island of Senja.

Finnsnes is a small harbor town overlooking the glacially carved landscapes of the island of Senja. Located in the central Lenvik region of Troms, Finnsnes is an important regional transportation hub and a charming place to spend a few days between destinations in breathtaking coastal Troms. Explore Finnsnes’ busy waterfront, learn about the region’s fascinating Viking heritage, attend a local soccer match or relax on the banks of a tranquil lake in the town’s tree-lined central park.

Stroll around the Finnsnes harbor area to appreciate the mix of industrial and heritage architecture. The harbor has a wooden boardwalk section, with a selection of waterfront cafés. Take a seat at the outdoor tables and enjoy hot coffee and a traditional Norwegian cardamom cake. Watch the speedboats, shuttle ferries and freighter ships coming and going in the harbor. Notice a large, white statue of Ottar fra Hålogaland, a Viking seafarer who has become the town’s mascot.

Check out Finnsnes central park area. This charming green oasis features a natural lake and a pretty fountain. Spot the tiny islets in the lake, which feature miniature ornamental homesteads. The park is also home to Lenvik’s city hall.

Explore the boroughs of small farming communities that surround Finnsnes to experience more of the region’s diverse landscapes. In winter, go alpine or cross-country skiing in the Lenvik region or watch a soccer match at the local indoor stadium. Visit the Finnsnes House of Culture to enjoy a theater performance or music concert during your stay in the town.

Opposite the harbor, spy the rugged mountaintops and coastal pine forests of the island of Senja. Finnsnes is known as the gateway to this breathtaking island and its expansive national park, Ånderdalen. Reach Senja via the Gisund Bridge, which spans Gisundet strait between Finnsnes and Silsand, Senja.

Finnsnes and Senja both have hotel accommodations, as well as more casual lodgings and scenic camping sites. Reach Finnsnes via the Bardufoss airport, about a 45-min drive away.
