From Franklin, it's roughly 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the southeast to Lexington and 45 miles (72 kilometers) to the west to Louisville.
Franklin is not the only place in South Central Kentucky worth exploring; those with enough time should also hit the road and discover the special qualities of the nearby countryside, cities and cultural attractions. New Castle, lays 19 miles (31 kilometers) to the southeast, and Owenton can be found 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the south.
Frankfort, is another good spot to visit. It is around 4 miles (6 kilometers) from Franklin and offers a great selection of things to do and see, such as Church of the Ascension, Kentucky State University and Kentucky Governor's Mansion. Frankfort has much of interest for those happy to spend a little time here. Liberty Hall, Frankfort Cemetery and Kentucky State Capitol are other attractions not to miss.
If you tend to take it easy when you are on a holiday, South Central Kentucky has some good options for you, like shore fishing and camping.
The most convenient major airport, Blue Grass Airport, is situated in Lexington, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the southeast of Franklin, which is handy to remember when booking your vacation.
