The inland motorbike ride to Ham Ninh from Duong Dong provides an introductory taste for Phu Quoc’s incredible landscapes. Look for wildlife and colorful plant species in the island’s mountainous forests.
As you reach the coast, admire the small yellow crescent of the beach curving between a mountain and the calm, clear waters of the gulf. The pointed roofs of the village huts complete a picture of an idyllic island getaway.
Find a quiet patch of sand and begin a day of relaxation. Sunbathe on your towel, enjoy a good book or swim in the water and look back onto the rugged island forestland.
Chat with some of the friendly village locals. They may even let you walk onto their extraordinary wooden jetties that extend out to sea, providing access to their precious fishing boats.
Sample some of the unusual local delicacies, which range from health drinks made from ginseng and seaweed to mushrooms and liquor-soaked seahorses. If these are too unfamiliar, enjoy a crabmeat lunch or bring back some of these curiosities as souvenirs.
Inland from the beach, see the Suoi Tranh Waterfall located within an ecopark. These cool springs are most impressive in the wet season. Reach them on foot in about 20 minutes from the entry point to the park.
Rent motorbikes to access Ham Ninh from Duong Dong. The Suoi Tranh waterfall entrance is along the main road to the village.
