I have stayed at the Nyack Hotel before and had a good experience, which is why this last stay was so disappointing.
After driving four hours from Boston, I arrived around 12:15 a.m. and was exhausted. There was a large wedding party at the hotel, and when I went to check in there were only about three groups ahead of me. Unfortunately, there was only one front desk agent working. Each group seemed to take an extremely long time because there were lengthy conversations, multiple payment transactions, and different room decisions being made at the desk. What should have been a quick check-in ended up taking over 40 minutes.
When I finally received my room keys, they didn't work, so I had to go back downstairs and wait again to have them reprogrammed.
The hallway leading to the room had a strong musty odor that lasted throughout my stay. The carpet smelled like it needed a deep cleaning or replacement, and it really affected the overall experience.
I won breakfast for me and my guest, which was a nice perk and the food was enjoyable. However, the service was frustrating. The attendant stepped away for about 20 minutes while several guests, including myself, stood there waiting just to place an order.
I know this hotel is capable of providing a much better experience because I've stayed here before and enjoyed it. I hope management addresses the staffing issues and refreshes the hallways, because with a few improvements this could once again be a great place to stay.
