This was my first visit to KK (and Asia!) and what a welcome the staff at CJ Residence provided. Given their location in the heart of downtown amidst the hustle and bustle, a first time visitor might have troubles finding the Residence. However, they sent me their whatsapp contact in advance of my trip, and subsequently sent very detailed instructions on their location. They also asked for my ETA which I thought was standard practice. Above and beyond was staff waiting outside the Residence with an umbrella to greet me from my Grab! It was raining heavily and they assisted with my bags and escorted me up to the Residence. Chivalry ain't dead. They turned the AC on in advance of my arrival. Such small details of care were so appreciated (with this being my first time to Asia I was hit hard by the heat and humidity). The room itself was lovely. The bed was very comfortable with a thick firm mattress and soft sheets. There was a mini fridge which I've since learned isn't an expectation in all KK hotels. The bathroom was spotlessly clean with ample bathroom tissue. Power outlets had USB-C inputs, but just in case they had power converters! The decor was very modern and inviting. They took the time to check in via whatsapp that I had everything I needed, and offered assistance of any kind. Location of the Residence is also perfect for walking to the many food markets only blocks away. CJ Residence is the perfect choice for a home away from home experience in the heart of KK!

We had an amazing time at Gaya Island Resort. It is a luxury resort with great food and drinks, comfortable rooms, and incredible views/proximity to the ocean. Worth noting is that this is in a nature reserve, surrounded by jungle and ocean, and the resort embraces and supports this, which means coexisting with wildlife. You can walk out from the resort beach to their own protected reef and swim with dozens of species of beautiful fish (equipment is available for free). We didn’t see any snakes, though we watched for them constantly over 5 days and participated intently in multiple jungle walks. The activities were an absolute highlight - a deeper snorkeling excursion, walks, mangrove kayaking, and more available. I had booked it confident that the family members who prefer to lounge by the pool would be well-served, but they ended up coming on the excursions and having a great time. Definitely worth 4-5 days if you can swing it.

Unfortunately, our stay at The Aru was disappointing. Cleaning was never completed on time, and when the apartment was cleaned, items were regularly missed or left undone. The overhead shower did not work, and we also experienced problems with the hot water. Communication from the staff was poor, with little effort made to keep us updated or resolve the issues. The service felt very cold and unwelcoming. The property has potential, but the maintenance, housekeeping and customer service need significant improvement.
