Top Mallaig Hotel Reviews

The Garrison
8/10 Good
"Rooms or shall I say, apartment, was lovely and plenty of space.
However, when we went to go to bed and pulled the sheet back on our bed, there were hairs everywhere. So we we had to go down the hill to reception to collect all new bedding, lug it back up the hill and remake our bed.
Wouldn’t have been a big issue but we never got an apology over the 4 days we were there.
When we checked out we mentioned it again and was told it had been reported to the area manager. Who and where they were we had no idea. Thought this was quite poor given that we were staying so many nights.
These are lovely rooms with great views across the loch and right in town so close to all the amenities. They just need to maybe up the staff levels as only ever seem to be one member of staff about, which is why we had to collect our own sheets. I am not faulting the lady we chatted to on reception, just that there should be at least 2 of them so one can attend to guests issues etc.
If it hadn’t have been for this it would have been a perfect stay."

Balmacara Hotel
2/10 Terrible
"Very expensive hotel/building site.
Struggled to park in the car park doe to all the tradesmens’ vans.
Checked in having paid £233 fo a family room and immediately got upsold breakfast for another £34.
Got room key (33) and although the room itself was nice, the ambience was somewhat diminished by the jackhammer and steamrollers laying the new car park. There was a digger within touching distance of my balcony.
We asked to change rooms and th receptionist tried to charge me again for setting up a child’s bed in the new room (43).
Bar was full of workmen in hi viz vests. Felt like a Travelodge.
Dinner was great but they tried to overcharge by billing the wrong wine. When pulled up, they blamed not having the right wine on their till system but failed to apologise.
Breakfast was a zoo. Full of workmen hoovering up everything like locusts.
Massively disappointing. I realise that improving the hotel in the “off season” makes commercial sense, but it ruined our experience and the cost should have been reduced or at least we should have been warned about the work going on…. "

Nevis Bank Inn
10/10 Excellent
"Second time I’ve used this hotel in a year when visiting FW. Staff are always helpful friendly and chatty. Was able to leave luggage there ahead of check in each time as I arrived early morning on sleeper train each time. Rooms and en-suites are well presented, clean and comfortable. Only marked down in one score as hotel looks a bit grotty on exterior. "

Base Camp Hotel Nevis Range
10/10 Excellent
"This is a great location as your base for your adventures on Ben Nevis......as it says in the name 😀. The staff are friendly and helpful and check-in/out went smoothly.
There is an amazing cafe opposite that serves snacks, full meals and drinks. Also on site is the bike hire and the staff here have excellent knowledge of the area and all things bike related.
To top it off the hotel is situated right on the Nevis gondola station.
Fully recommend staying here."
