There are always two things to review in these situations. The first is the host and the second is the property. Wendy was a great host. She was willing to communicate as often as we needed her, but did not bother us during the trip. Her rules for the house are extremely reasonable. Many people host in fishing areas and act as if they want to exclude fishermen. This is not the case with Wendy. She understands the preference of most people to keep bait out of the inside food freezers, but provided an extremely clean outside freezer and refrigerator for bait and fresh catches. As for checkout leaving the property in a respectful manner with laundry on the floor and dishes running in the machine are all that guest are asked to do. Everything is clearly communicated so you don't have to guess.
We stayed at this property for 1 week in August. The property was extremely clean and ready for us. We brought a 20' bay boat, but much larger boats would be fine there. There were other boats close to 30' in the canal and the ability to turn around is really the only thing limiting boat size as there is ample space on the sea wall.
Outside you will find a hose reel with enough hose to wash down your boat and coolers, a fish cleaning station with a dedicated hose. There is an outside outlet that can be reached with a 50' extension cord to charge your batteries. If you don't have a boat the canal still provides endless entertainment as it has resident mangrove snapper and is visited by everything from queen angels to tarpon. For those that are fishing there is a short minimum wake zone trip through the canal and 2 gas stations on the way to open water. This isn't like some places where you have to tack an hour on to the trip each way to get fishing.
There are two very comfortable beds which are appreciated after a long day of fishing and a nice stall style shower with a bathtub if needed. The back bedroom stays the darkest for those that have that desire, while the front bedroom is as dark as most urban/suburban hotels. Most importantly the neighborhood feels very safe. When you are leaving a boat in a canal and your trailer unhooked in the front of the house that is very important.
All in all I highly recommend this property. It is well maintained, well managed, and conveniently located.
