Welcome to your Stay on the St. Clair River
"As Ships Go By" is a prime Metro Detroit Vacation Rental, located in Marine City, one of Southeast Michigan's and Western Ontario's top destination spots. Enjoy your view from your deck as a parade of nautical vessels pass your expansive 1900 square foot, 4 bedroom retreat. Absorb the sights and sounds of all four seasons and the constantly changing natural wonders along the river. Family friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The property is a duplex and we live in the adjacent unit making us available to accommodate your stay. Except for the boat hoist, you have full access to the dock and yard.

Awesome rental
This is a wonderful property. The hosts are gracious and welcoming. If you are a freighter maven like my husband and I, this is the place to be. It's right on the St. Clair River, and you can watch the freighters go by day and night. This is our fourth stay at this location, and we are already planning to go back next year.

Merry time Christmas
A girls' trip to Marine City for their Merry time Christmas day. We love the shops and restaurants in downtown and Pete is a great host. The house is very clean and comfortable. He had it decorated for Christmas which was so appreciated. This is our third stay at this property and would stay again.

Comfortable. Beautifully and interestingly decorated. Kitchen well stocked with cookware and appliances. Great views of the river and the big ships from first and second floor sunrooms, back deck and the dock out on the water. Grounds and gardens lovely. Convenient location too between Marine City and Harsens Island. WE'LL BE BACK!

Pete was an amazing host. Pete and his wife were so helpful and gracious and they even took us on a little ride aboard their boat. The place was beautiful and clean and it is a great place to relax. I highly recommend and will definitely return again!!

What an awesome stay! The place was just as advertised and the hosts were just as gracious as the reviews indicated. There were 6 of us for a fishing trip and we had everything we needed. Location was great...just south of the MC launch. Sure hope we can duplicate this 4 day stay again. Thanks for the great experience!

My go to vacation ; A piece of heaven Few weeks ago, We had a wonderful summer weekend with my family staying at Pete and Karen’s property, who were amazing hosts. We had a great time there, playing , eating, going sightseeing and more. Words can’t describe how wonderful, warm and friendly they are. They took care of everything even the smallest ones such as providing children with different type of games and board games which , Pete and Karen extremely kid and nice to my son and their adorable dog “Sandy” was so friendly and played with my son. The cottage was extremely beautiful and surrounded by the river and trees. Having easy access to grocery, restaurants and antiques shops. I really recommend this beautiful place if you want to have quality time with your Family sitting on the deck and having sip of wine. Another point about the exotic place if like sunny weather. I would highly recommend you to go there on your summer vacation. If you have kids this is where you definitely go. If there were more than five star I could give him 10.

This is a delightful cottage on the St. Clair River with two glassed in porches to watch the water from. The hosts are awesome. We will be back next year - no need to look for another place.

Family Christmas Get Away
Great place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The property owners Pete and Karen were very gracious and made sure we felt at home. We want to especially thank them for the Christmas tree and decorations. The house furnishings are very charming, with attention to nautical and golf themes. If you enjoy ship viewing, this is the place to be, the viewing rooms (upstairs and downstairs) are the perfect place for ship viewing, reading or playing games with the family. We would definitely come back during the summer.

I’ve never been in a cleaner rental house. They did an amazing job. So friendly and hospitable. We also loved the views of the boats and river. One of the best stays we have ever had in a rental and we’ve been to many.

Beautiful view and property
Wonderful from start to finish. The hosts were very friendly, providing everything we needed from start to finish. We even had chocolate chip cookies to greet us. We enjoyed the views of the river and the fishing right of the dock. A wonderful place to sit and enjoy the freighters and boats pass by. An added bonus was to meet Sandy, the sweet dog of the hosts. She was a doll. :) Everything was clean and the house was well stocked with all we needed for our stay. Would definitely recommend to anyone and would love to return someday. Thanks for a great experience!

Relaxing Stay
The property is amazing! If I could give it 10 stars, I would. The property is super clean. It has everything you need. The decor was beautifully eclectic. The river is right out the back door. But, the cherry on top, was watching the freighters from the deck of the house! We didn't want to leave. The owners are very friendly but not obtrusive. Marine City is a cute town with several restaurants and stores. We'll be planning another trip soon!

Perfect place to have a cup of coffee
The owners are very nice and helpful, and we enjoyed our stay. The beds weren't the most comfortable, but the views were great. The furniture could be a bit more comfortable, but it gets the job done. The decorations of the house are great for a topic of conversation, we decided to pick our favorite ship and share it on the last day. We really enjoyed watching the barges on the river. The kitchen had most everything you'd need, including flour and sugar and an apron. It was perfect for a mom get away, and it was clean and welcoming.

Love staying here. Right on the river, the freighters are so it seems like you can touch them. The property is exactly as pictured. It is clean and the host Peter responds very quickly and is very friendly. Good restaurants and shopping in Marine City which is only a few miles away. We'll be back.

Ships and board games. Perfect winter stay!
This place was perfect, exactly what we needed! Karen and Peter are kind and friendly hosts. We really enjoyed the chance to get to know them and their sweet dog Sandy in the brief time that we were there and were excited to visit their antique shop before leaving town. We were happily surprised to find some very pretty Christmas decorations and fresh cookies when we arrived. The house was even larger and cuter in person. The place was spotless and filled with interesting books, model boats and cool knickknacks that kept us busy much of the weekend. Beds were comfortable, the linens were nice. The house had everything that we needed to settle in for a few days to play games and watch the ships pass by. The ships were amazing, much closer and more frequent than I expected. The kids were delighted to use the binoculars, books and posters in the house to identify each ship that passed. Overall this was an excellent weekend away, cozy and no stress. We will definitely be back!
