Masaya is located 20 km south of Managua, Nicaragua. It is Nicaragua's first and largest National Park. As you can see off to the left, it is quietly letting you know it's there. If your eyesight is bad, your nose will let you know it too!!
Active volcano in Nicaragua. Boiling lava at bottom and smoke rising off of it.
Apoyo Lagoon rests in the crater of an extinct volcano. At the lookout point there are many shops/vendors and places to eat and a restroom (for a price). It's very windy and much cooler up there so bring layers! This is a must see when in Nicaragua!

The shuttle pick up was very well timed for us, as we arrived late at night and when we walked out the door, it was there. The room was a little dated, but clean and the breakfast buffet was great. Unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to enjoy the pool. It looked very inviting.

If your looking for something to do to cool off in Nicaragua's heat, head to Laguna de Apoyo just outside Managua. Resorts line the rim of this volcanic Crater Lake and you can sit by the lakeside enjoying piña colodas. Swimming here is great though there's not much in the way of beaches. Spend the day or stay over night and be prepared to chill.
