8.4/10 Very Good! (541 reviews)
My first impression of this hotel was extremely disappointing, and unfortunately, things did not improve during my stay.
The check-in experience at the front desk set the tone. The staff came across as dismissive, unfriendly, and uninterested in helping guests. A warm welcome can make all the difference, but instead, I felt like I was an inconvenience.
After check-in, we were directed to the Papagayo restaurant. The food there tasted stale and was one of the worst dining experiences of the trip. If you stay here, don’t let that be your only impression of the food—try the Liberia restaurant instead. The quality there was significantly better, and the servers were genuinely kind, attentive, and welcoming. I also want to recognize the bartenders by the pool, who were among the few employees who consistently smiled and made guests feel appreciated.
Unfortunately, the room was another major disappointment. There was a strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom, and we had to keep the toilet lid closed at all times because the odor was unbearable. The room also was not properly cleaned. We found a nail on the floor, and there were spider webs in one corner of the room, making it obvious that the room had not been thoroughly inspected after housekeeping.
This was my fourth trip to Costa Rica, a country I absolutely love, but it was my first and last stay at this hotel. What stood out most was the lack of genuine hospitality. I will not be returning .
