Top Mt. Hotaka Hotel Reviews
Takumi no Yado Miyama Ouan
10/10 Excellent
"Excellent place for all included vacation, good and plenty food and a wonderful onsen."
Toyoko Inn Matsumoto-eki Higashi-guchi
10/10 Excellent
"We enjoyed the breakfast, clean comfortable room, and convenient location. For western travelers the beds are very firm."
AZUMINO KOGEN RESORT
8/10 Good
"Loved being in the mountains with the quiet and beauty. My initial room smelled moldy and appeared old and not well kept and hotel staff was responsive-had to stay in a cottage one night as the hotel was full then my room was changed to a modern clean lovely smelling room on a high floor that was great. The onsen was lovely. My biggest complaint is the lack of gluten free dining options. Although everything is labeled with allergens, out of maybe 50 dishes each meal the only gluten free options are salad, raw fish and often one plain vegetable dish. Eating was difficult due to my gluten sensitivity and the staff gave me supplies to cook in my room and I shopped at the local market. The free train station shuttle was wonderful as a one way cab ride is around $40 usd. It only runs in the morning and afternoon and would have preferred all day options instead."

"Wonderful"
THE CELECTON Matsumoto
8/10 Good
"The Celecton is a nice, standard Japanese hotel. The rooms are small, but they are practical, very clean and amenities are good. If you want a hotel that is close to the Castle then this is a good one, but it is 10-15 minutes walk to the train station, restaurants, and the other attractions in Matsumoto. My room was facing the Castle but directly above a busy road, so it was quite noisy."
Hodakaso Yamano Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"We lived our stay at this very authentic ryokan like hotel. The staff were generous and kind, we were able to book the private onsen for a very reasonable price to accommodate our tattoos and our family going together. The half board was delicious. This is not a luxury stay so much as a real Japanese cultural experience and we had a great time as a family of four USA folk with teens."
Komakusa Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"From the very start to the very finish of our stay, my family and I felt so very welcomed. The hotel was extremely clean and orderly. This particular hotel is very cozy. The onsen bath/ ofuro was extremely relaxing, clean, and refreshing. The staff are above and beyond professional and extremely courteous. We will definitely come back to stay at this hotel. We highly recommend this hotel after a long day of hiking and sightseeing."
Ryokan Gizan
10/10 Excellent
"Staff was very helpful and courteous. The service rendered was excellent. The Hida beef for dinner and breakfast was also very good. We enjoyed our stay."
Okuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan
10/10 Excellent
"Okuhida Hot Spring Hirayukan is conveniently located, just a short and easy walk from the Hirayu Onsen bus terminal. A small shop beside the ryokan sells snacks and drinks, which is useful especially in the quieter evenings. Check in was smooth and the ryokan already had our Expedia reservations. As with most Japanese ryokan, copies of our passports were taken. We stayed in the Japanese Style Room, Sengakuso, Non Smoking (35 sqm). Footwear must be removed at the main lobby and changed to the in house slippers, in line with traditional ryokan customs. Our room was located some distance away from the main lobby and required climbing two flights of stairs, with no lift access. There were no shower facilities in the room, which is typical for many traditional ryokan. The onsen baths are located in the main building, and the male and female bathing areas are rotated once a day. Buffet dinner offered at Y4400 per person from 6pm. It was enjoyable and good value, with a wide selection including seafood. Each table is provided with two fuel stoves, and guests can choose between grilling, hotplate, or hotpot to cook the raw food. A nice touch is the free ramen served at the main lobby from 10pm to 10.30pm, perfect for a light supper after a soak in the onsen."
