Try some of the rare delicacies at a night market that is a little less crowded than competitors, with just as broad and tasty a selection of food.

Visit Ningxia Night Market, a diverse bazaar in the heart of Taipei. It has a rich heritage and offers a lively evening setting, with stalls showcasing all types of intriguing and exotic food. Pick out some of the most rare and unusual delicacies for something new and unforgettable.

Admire the neon signs and awnings decorated with cartoon octopi and other cute and funny characters. Browse various stalls for fish rolls, oyster omelets and the local treat of stinky tofu. Try fried taro balls with salted egg yolk and pork floss. Pork liver soup, mochi balls and fried bee hoon or vermicelli noodles are among the other popular food items.

In addition to the eclectic array of animals that you might not have considered eating before, the market is packed with vegetables and vegetarian dishes. Some of the stalls are small restaurants, with large covered seating areas. Have a ball of shaved ice as a refreshing dessert after a filling meal. Sweet red beans and mango are two of the most popular topping flavors.

Food is a large part of the market, but shops also sell a great range of souvenirs, toys and tools. Purchase a stuffed bear or an animated character for your little ones.

Learn how the market has been rejuvenated, like several other night markets in Taipei. Despite its vast and diverse display of food, it is a little smaller and less crowded than the Shilin Night Market and the Raohe Night Market.

The Ningxia Night Market is in the downtown Taipei area, a little inland from the eastern bank of the Tamsui River. Travel by metro to either the Shuanglian Station or the Zhongshan Station and walk west for a few minutes to get here.

Other sights in the neighborhood include the Yongle Fabric Market, the Sin Hong Choon tea museum and the Taipei Xiahai City God Temple.
