"Great villa with a lovely pool, fabulous view in a nice secluded area walking distance to the beach. Very good Greek food nearby, and it was so useful to have a fridge and washing machine!
Really recommend this spot — was very relaxing and private :)"

"Edem Boutique Hotel is a hidden gem nestled in the relaxing village of Ammoudara Beach, just a few miles from Agios Nikolaos. With only seven rooms, this charming property offers beautiful views of Mirabello Bay and a wonderfully intimate atmosphere.
We stayed for 10 days, and our experience was fantastic. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated with modern touches, exceptionally clean, and just steps from the beach. The room was cleaned daily, with the bed made each day, which made our...

We absolutely loved the New Aurora Apartments. The rooms were super spacious, spotlessly clean and fully equipped with everything we could need. The parking was easy as well. We were close to numerous cafes, shops and restaurants so didn’t have to go far for food etc. It was also a short walk to a lovely secluded beach. It is a definitely somewhere we would come back to in a heartbeat.

We stayed at Istron Collection Villas in September 2026, and our experience was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Our villa was beautiful, clean, comfortable, and having our own private pool made the stay even more special.
The staff truly made our visit memorable. Everyone at the hotel and throughout the property was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The customer service was outstanding! One of the sweetest surprises was when the staff overheard that we were celebrating a...

Perfect place to stay in Agios! Right on the water walkable to the lake and tons of restaurants but a little more on the outskirts of the chaos. The staff are what make this place- they are truly all amazing and go above and beyond. We had a spa suite with a hot tub and just a regular ocean view room- nice room but I think you actually get a better view in the regular rooms. The spa bath is more like a one person jacuzzi because it’s very slippery and when we had two people the water started to...

Nothing bad to say about this resort. Upon arrival, we were upgraded from a Ocean View Suite to the Ocean View Suite with Private Swimming Pool at no additional charge. The Greek hospitality was immediately recognizable. They gave us a free massage, bottle of wine and water, fruit basket and another free bottle of wine coupon to be used with dinner at the resort. The room was spacious with new amenities. The dinner restaurant was a buffet that cost 25 euro p/p. I would say that may have been the...

An absolute gem in Agios Nikolaos! Highly recommended!
We stayed at Moncasa Suites during our trip to Crete and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The location is wonderfully convenient—just a short, easy walk into town—and the property itself was immaculately clean, modern, and comfortable.
What truly sets Moncasa Suites apart, though, is the incredible hospitality. When we called upon arriving early in the morning, Alexandra kindly accommodated us and let us check in early right...

This is a very nice hotel near the marina, a bit away from the chaos of the center of A.N. but still close to restaurants, the beach, etc. The perfect location in my opinion. The hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful. The room itself was fairly basic but clean. We booked a room with a large deck - enough room for 2 loungers, a bistro set, and a bit tub (with unheated water perfect for cooling off in). We spent quite a bit of time on that deck. Breakfast was very good as well. Good...

This is a luxurious, beautiful hotel set in one of the most beautiful surroundings possible. Flowers, gardens, art, good food, amazing access to the sea. A very special place. We were upgraded to a villa with private pool and this was phenomenal. The villa was large and very well designed. Our only complaint was that the shower was very small. There was a separate bathtub in the room with a gorgeous view that made up for it, however.

The best area to stay in Old Quarter is the Venetian Harbor area, which is the heart of the historic district and offers immediate access to the waterfront.
This area is defined by its picturesque harbor, lined with Venetian-era buildings that now house restaurants and shops. The iconic Lighthouse stands at the harbor entrance, and the Firkas Fortress provides a historical backdrop. It's very walkable, with narrow, winding streets that lead to small squares and architectural discoveries. Couples will find this area particularly appealing for its romantic setting and easy access to evening strolls along the water.
For travelers seeking a slightly quieter experience while still being central, the neighborhoods just behind the Venetian Harbor, such as those around Splanzia Square or the Jewish Quarter, are excellent choices.
When is the best time to go to Old Quarter?
The best time to visit Old Quarter, Crete, is during the shoulder seasons, specifically from April to early June and from September to October. These months offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and comfortable conditions for exploring.
During these periods, temperatures are mild, typically ranging from the low 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, which is ideal for walking through the narrow streets and enjoying outdoor dining. You'll find that most attractions, shops, and restaurants are open, but without the peak-season congestion, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. This time is particularly good for couples seeking a romantic getaway without the hustle and bustle.
For those who enjoy warmer weather and don't mind more activity, July and August are also viable options, though they are the busiest and hottest months. While the Old Quarter will be bustling with visitors, the evenings are lively, and the sea is superb for swimming.
Where can I find the best nightlife in Old Quarter?
The Old Quarter of Chania offers several options for evening entertainment, primarily concentrated within its historic pedestrianized streets.
The Venetian Harbor area is the focal point for evening relaxation. You'll find numerous cafes and tavernas lining the waterfront, many of which transform into bars as the evening progresses. These establishments often have outdoor seating, providing views of the harbor and lighthouse. They tend to focus on drinks, light snacks, and a relaxed social atmosphere.
Within the narrow streets of the Old Quarter itself, particularly around the main squares, there are smaller, more intimate bars and cocktail lounges. These often occupy historic buildings and offer a quieter setting compared to the harborfront. You'll find places specializing in craft cocktails, local wines, and sometimes live traditional music.
For those seeking late-night activity, a few establishments in the Old Quarter operate as dance clubs or have DJs playing music. These are typically found a bit further back from the immediate harborfront, integrated into the labyrinthine streets.
