"superb views (normally)"
Having stayed here before I knew what to expect. It is after all a small privately run hotel on the edge of Dartmoor, and has all the charm and views you would expect. This time the weather was foul and seeing acros the car park was the lmit of the view, but even then the hotel has a friendly way of making you feel comfortable. Being a single traveller I expect a smaller room and just wish it wasn't always so much smaller.

"Beautiful surroundings. Room was clean and warm. "
Staff were helpful. Parking during the day was an issue as golfers used the hotel car park, despite having a separate car park a short distance away. Breakfast on the second day was delicious, but first day was a very long time coming and cold. We also had a bar snack and the chips were the best I have ever tasted.

"One night in Plymouth"
The Edgcumbe Guest House was a perfect bed and breakfast. Carla was a wonderful hostess! We are a family with 2 kids and Carla was kind enough to provide us with top floor all to ourselves. We had a separate room with a bathroom for the kids and my husband and I had our own room and ensuite as well. All for the price of one room! It was fantastic!! As an added bonus, the ocean was less than a 2 minute walk away. In the morning, we had a delicious traditional English breakfast - very well done! You could tell that this b & b has a lot of repeat customers as they all seemed to know Carla by name!

"Convenient "
On arrival staff were friendly and helpful and showed us to our room, informed us times restaurant was open for meals. We had dinner in the Bistro 38 as d the food was excellent and well presented. There was a good choice for breakfast, again the staff were friendly and had time to chat. Will definitely stay again.

"A very enjoyable stay."
My wife and I paid for a room to stay in one night for our first anniversary. The staff were very kind and helpful and could not do enough for us. There were plenty of toiletries available for us to use and the room had practically everything we needed. I would point out though that this is *NOT* a hotel. Our room was one of three (I think) located above a pub. Whereas my wife and I were lucky (we were there to celebrate) it's worth saying that being a pub there was a fair amount of noise up to closing time. If you're looking for somewhere quiet to stay, this isn't it. The parking was adequate for us. We were lucky enough to have a parking space immediately outside the building but I could see that had the nearby pubs / shops been busier, we might have had problems. If you're lucky enough to know the area (I was born and grew up in Plymouth) you might have some luck but as it was, we didn't need it. There are frequent and regular buses to and from the city centre, stopping literally a couple of minutes from the pub. Very helpful for us as the walk would have taken us about half an hour. it's also worth saying that our room did not have its own toilet / shower. There was a toilet and a separate shower across the hall from our room but these were communal. Not the biggest problem in the world but again, worth mentioning. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Pocket Guide: Plymouth, England Pet-friendly Hotels

The principal town of the south west, Plymouth is famous for its maritime legacy. The Hoe, where Drake awaited the Armada, overlooks the magnificent harbour (Sound): home to naval dockyards and warships, accessible on sightseeing cruises. The bustling atmospheric Barbican district by the inner harbour, with its narrow streets of Tudor and Jacobean buildings, is where the Pilgrim Fathers sailed from. Visit the Elizabethan House and the Plymouth Gin Distillery, as well as the National Marine Aquarium - one of England’s finest.
