About an hour out of Xela is a wonderful Hike to Laguna Chicabal a sacred Mayan Lake. Plan to leave early and spend the day climbing and in and around the lake. There is often mayan ceremonies going on. Best way to get there is by shuttle from Xela. Note you cannot swim in the lake, it is prohibited. Waking up to that view every morning and watching and listening to a thunderstorm on one of the nights during my stay was so relaxing. We encountered a few spiders around the house, and he brought us a repellent spray.From the top floor of the house, you get a beautiful sight of the lake and the mountains.
