Check-in was quick. The room was spacious, and quirky in its layout. There were plenty of plug spckets in the room including a usb socket close to the bed for charging my phone. I was in a room on the 3rd floor, and theres no lift, so traipsing up and down all the stairs was frustrating. The room was clean, but dated in appearance. The hotel is ideally located a few min walk from the train station and centre of town. That said, I would recommend this a budget option. The rooms are small but clean and the beds were comfortable. You will have to walk up a couple flights of stairs as there is no elevator. We did not use the continental breakfast on offer. The owners kept us supplied with tea and coffee for the kettle in the room. The two gentlemen were very nice and accommodating, and allowed us to store our luggage prior to check-in. While the area initially appears sketchy, it is actually a commercial/residential neighborhood in a very convenient location. The Strood rail station is a block away (trains into London), and there is an Aldi about a 5 minutes walk and a shopping center (M&S, Poundland, Starbucks) about 10 minutes away. Then you can walk across the beautiful bridge to the Rochester Castle, the High Street (LOTS of shops and restaurants) and the Cathedral in 10 more minutes. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Good location near the train station and a short walk to Rochester Castle. Only negative, just wish we could have opened the window a little more to let cool air in at night, it was unseasonably hot weather so wouldn’t be a problem most of the time.
