Comfortable, well-equipped and private
We stayed at Buttercup Cottage for four nights. It is located 5 mins drive from Rye town centre in a quiet, private location with allocated parking. The studio is spacious and the facilities are excellent for self-catering. We also ate twice at Layla's, a turkish restaurant, which is highly recommended. The town gets busy in the holiday season so you may need to book. The cottage also has a very helpful guide for visitors with lots of tips and advice to improve your stay. The shower extractor fan is not the best, so we left the bathroom door open to dry out the room by the end of the day. Heating is excellent and easily controlled. The communications and management was very good.

A Good Trip Ruined
Disappointing booking. Initially we were very pleased with cottage. Some of the equipment inside could do with an upgrade but it was pleasant, comfortable and in an excellent position just at the edge of Rye. A big problem is the internet. Previous reviews described it as 'spotty' and the owners in their instructions said it wasn't good for video but sufficient for emails etc. Truth is it drops completely for long periods of the day and annoyingly the phone reception is also poor.
The initial communication from the tream running the property was good but all of that was ruined by an email on our third day telling us a neighbour had reported an outside table had been moved and that we had been charging our Tesla from the house. We were guilty on both counts. I'd charged the Tesla for about an hour to get it up to 10% so I could recharge fully near Peasmarsh (EST cost about £1.20). We had also used the heating a lot and taken a couple of baths. As the weather was brutal we had moved a table against the wall for shelter as my gran was visiting for an hour before we moved it back (Covid rules prevented her from coming inside). Putting aside the triviality of our crimes, the thought that the neighbours were signed up members of the local Stasi Neighborhood Watch Scheme (to the point of identifying the make of our car) was very off putting and spoiled what should have been an enjoyable stay -notwithstanding the terrible internet connection. Book if you don't mind being watched!!
