8.4/10 Very Good! (913 reviews)
The building itself looked clean and historical on the outside, but the inside is a bit run down. The staff person checking us in was quite friendly but that's where the 'nice' stuff ended.
Our room was tiny and dirty and smelled like old cigarette smoke even though we always book a non-smoking room. The rug was quite stained and the furniture pretty banged up.
The bathroom, however, was very clean (compared to the rest of the room), although the vanity light above the sink didn't work, nor did some of the outlets in the bedroom area.
We booked this hotel because of the reviews and price, so I'm guessing we either just got very unlucky with our particular room, or others traveling in Scotland have lower thresholds for cleanliness.
The sitting room off the lobby was cozy and offered games and puzzles. We did not utilize the bar area but saw others enjoying themselves.
The stairwell leading to the pool was dark, dirty and a bit creepy.
We did inform staff at check out about the light in the bathroom, the smoke smell and the fact that the hair dryer did not work, but she didn't write anything down so I'm assuming none of those things will get fixed.
Lastly, their parking lot is open to anyone, so we had to pay for parking which I think is ridiculous for paying guests. Oh, and the picture depicted on this page isn't of an area we saw at all.
