Room was clean but on the small side. Generally old furnishings but bathroom seemed fairly modern. Bed wasn't very comfortable unfortunately. Great location and overall good value.

Great location with busses outside the guest house direct to the City Centre every 5-10 minutes. On-site parking which is great also but limited. Its quite self-service as there isnt anyone to greet you are just left a key and have to phone them up when you arrive. Take your own towels as there were none left for me in the room which I found strange.

It’s an auto check-in, no staff. Everything worked fine. Rooms are decent and is a suitable, inexpensive place to stay. Not much to do in the area, although the Persevere Pub is an excellent stop for a pint and food.

The Tolbooth was built in 1591 and would have formed the local hub for the Canongate burgh, along with the nearby Mercat Cross where merchants met and conducted their business. The Tolbooth would have had many functions, serving as courthouse, burgh jail and meeting place of the town council. The building was constructed for Sir Lewis Bellenden, the justice-clerk for the burgh, and his initials can still be seen over the archway to Tolbooth Wynd.
