Check in was efficient and friendly. Room: cleanliness questionable ! bathroom was had dust on skirting boards, edges of floor and sockets, with someone’s hair left in the waste bin. Black towels … never know if they are used or not ! Bedding material felt strange, not cotton. Room 6 - close to stairs / doors so noisy when anyone came to bed. Sat Evening & Sunday breakfast- the chef (two different ones) were stood outside the kitchen door on the way for guests to their rooms, vaping. I saw this several times as I went back to our room, and they didn’t wash their hands when going back to work. I used to work in hospitality and I watched as I was saddened to see them vaping in open sight of guests. Asked for a Hugo spritz as it was advertised on a board - not available, why is it advertised as a special ? Bar busy with locals enjoying their evening, drinking not eating. Acoustics in bar meant we could hardly hear each other. Two young ladies made up the bar staff on a Saturday pm. We did not complain re cleanliness of the room / bathroom, as the pub was fully booked. We’d driven 4hrs and were shattered and didn’t want to have to find somewhere else.

This hotel is very comfortable, and in a great location for the Quay area, its about 5 minutes walk to the restaurants and bars. The Cathedral is about 2 minutes in the opposite direction. The hotel is an older building with interesting history, but its very well appointed, clean and the staff are friendly and approachable. A query that I had was soon resolved. There is secure parking under the hotel, which is a great advantage in the centre of a city. It also has a Miller and Carter restaurant.
