More relaxed and family-friendly than neighboring Bondi, this scenic beach neighborhood is an absolute favorite for local surfers, picnickers and day-trippers.

Charming Bronte is the real crown jewel among Sydney’s eastern beaches. Explore this neighborhood’s lovely open spaces, enjoy its family-friendly atmosphere and savor the culinary delights served in its cafés and restaurants.

Visit Bronte Beach to surf, swim or sunbathe on the soft, golden sand. The waves are often strong, which is good for surfers but also a reason for caution. Swim between the flags in the presence of lifeguards. There are free ocean baths, which include a 100-foot (30-meter) lap pool and a shallow enclosure suited for children.

Bring food to enjoy at the covered picnic tables. Use the public barbecues or head to the kiosk for takeout. There is plenty of room to kick a soccer ball or play a game of cricket on the grass. After visiting the playground, treat your children to a ride on the miniature train, which has been delighting local kids since the 1940s.

Stroll through Bronte Gully, a lush parcel of bushland just a few minutes from the beach. Seek out the secluded waterfall and try to spot native wildlife, including birds, frogs and reptiles.

Look for the historic Bronte House, a Gothic-style cottage whose gorgeous rooms and gardens are open to the public for only a few days annually. Relax after a busy day at one of the many fine beachside cafés.

Bronte Beach is located on the famous Bondi to Coogee Walk, a 4-mile (6-kilometer) clifftop path that takes in some of Sydney’s finest beaches, bays and rock pools. Head south to see the Waverley Cemetery, one of the world’s most scenic burial grounds.

Travel to Bronte easily by bus from downtown Sydney or Bondi Junction. Use metered parking near the beach or try to find a street spot a few blocks away. Stay around after the day-trippers depart to enjoy a secluded dusk beach walk and a seaside dinner of fish and chips.
