This luxury shopping mall is a destination for lovers of fashion and fine food. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II sits on the main square, the Piazza del Duomo. The building is an important historic site, as it is said to be the oldest shopping mall in the world. At the same time, the arcade is a monument to contemporary style; many of the most famous contemporary designers have flagship stores at the Galleria. Spend an afternoon shopping, drop by for a drink after a local concert or simply come to admire the 19th-century architecture.

The Teatro alla Scala is a centuries-old opera house. The theater hosts opera, ballet and musical performances throughout the week. Santa Maria Delle Grazie is best known for housing one of the most important works of art in history, Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper. This cavernous church is one of the most revered cultural sites in Italy, as recognized by its identification as a World Heritage Site. The Last Supper is housed in the church refectory.

Visit the Porta Venezia on your way to exploring the shopping, clubs and restaurants of the adjoining district. Pause for a few minutes to appreciate the gates’ spectacular neoclassical forms and the many changes it has seen over the last 2,000 years. Though it shares a name with one of Italy’s other great northern cities, the gateway is truly Milanese, and has a varying and sometimes mythical past.
